Hi Fellas,

I'm from "across the tracks" on the slot car side and I've got a question
regarding cleaning rails. Since both hobbies share this dilemma, I thought
I'd ask here - in view of the fact that I'm using a PECO eraser and a what
I learned last night is basically a Fleischmann Cleaning Block to clean the
rails on my Model Motoring track pieces - both products you guys are
aware of - so the use of railroad cars to clean the rails are out.

My problem is that I can't find these products available. I've scoured the
internet universe looking and one dealer on this side of the swamp is
back ordered on the PECO eraser and dealer in UK is out of the Fleischmann
Cleaning Block. Are these products that scarce out there, or did I just pick
a bad time to start my search???

I've seen alternatives, like Brite Boy and a few other liquid cleaners...... so
what do you guys feel would be the best thing for cleaning oxidized and in
some cases, corroded rails???

Your comments would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance!!!

Don't know how well it works, but Walthers shows a Life-Like Track Brite Cleaner for both train and slot car rail.

Hi: I'm new to the sight but I've been in Modelrailraoding forever. I use Briteboys all the time. Also a cheap alternative is a regular ink eraser. I haven't tried the Walthers product yet either. I have slot cars integrated into my layout and the Briteboy works fine. Just watch to not scratch the plastic part of the slotcar track too much. Good luck.

I'VE BEEN TOLD BY RELIABLE SOURCES THAT NO-OXIDE IS THE BEST, I HAVE SOME, BUT NOT HAD A CHANCE TO USE IT YET BECAUSE IN THE PROCESS OF TEARING DOWN MY EXISTING LAYOUT AND STARTING A NEW ONE. I HAVE THE INFO ON THE PRODUCT IF YOU WANT IT. WHERE TO BY AND PRICE.

Ernie: If you can't find anything, I use regular ink reasers all the time.
If the corrosion is bad, you can use a kitchen chore girl or scrubbie (the sponge with the plastic abrasive on the back. You can also use Zud or Bar Keepers Friend with the scrubbing pad just be sure to wipe off with clear water and finish with some alchohol. Good luck!!
