I was up late friday night watching tv and around 230 A.M. decided to go to bed. before i went upstairs, i double check to make sure the front door is locked and as i did this, i happened to look outside through the window to the side of the front door and I see a guy walking in front of the house down the sidewalk. He was looking around and suddenly turned into my next door neighbors driveway between their two cars and it didn't look right.

At the same time ACROSS the street, a second guy did the same thing to my other neighbors two cars parked in their driveway. I saw the interior lights come on in all of those vehicles and could see the two guys inside the cars from the cars dome lights PLUS the street lights each house has at the end of the driveway. I saw them enter each car and then move on to the next car/truck parked in driveways& on the street.

I called the sheriffs office and described to the dispatcher everything i was watching these two guys do. the guy across the street got lit up from a motion sensor light but kept going through that neighbors 4 vehicles. they kept this up for 10 minutes the entire time i am on the phone with the sheriffs office.

pretty soon the entire area was surrounded by cop cars waiting in the dark from every possible direction and they grabbed the 2 guys who said it must be mistaken idenity, The sheriff took me down the street where there were about 11 police vehicles circled in the street at 3 A.M. and from inside one of several moving police cars was able to I.D. both guys.

The the watch commander showed up and thanked me and told me that he is also my neighbor and lives i block up. He said HE got his 2 vehicles burglarized 2 weks ago and this has been going on for the last 6 months and the sheriffs dept. has been UNABLE to catch them until i called in as i saw it happening.

I am glad i park my vehicles INSIDE my garage every day/night. I made a police report out along with my neighbors who were woke up by the sheriff and of course, I have to go to court to testify what i saw. If i had waited 5 minutes either way, i would have missed the action completly.

WTG Bert! Police officers are human and can only do so much; it makes their job easier when responsible citizens act appropriately. You definitely did the right thing by informing your local P.D. of the crime in-progress instead of confronting them yourself (like most of the knuckleheads in my neighborhood would).

they have been doing this if it the same 2 guys for at least 6 months PLUS they leave all the doors open and the dome lights on so people will have a wet car and dead battery when they are late for work.

they did that so they wouldnt make noise closing the car door. if theyve been at this 6 months without getting caught before theyre pretty good.
but not good enough to best bert!

Burglars think no one is watching them. I used to work on the 4th floor of building in the late 1980's when our secretary watched a guy, in broad daylight, go from one Datson 280Z to another in the large parking lot below. He easily got into three 280Zs in the lot in about 10 minutes. She called the police and described what he was doing. When he was done, the guy had gotten into his car and drove off while our secretary described his car and the direction and road he was travelling. The police caught him and arrested him.

I have a friend who has a son who was into doing car burglaries for a while. He found his son's diary explaining how he got a rush from breaking into people's cars and having the car alarm go off. I think he's given this up and reformed now. I can't see how they can make much money doing this sort of thing for long because I doubt they get much money for radios and CD players. Mabey $25-50 at most at a pawn shop? The car burgalers are either kids that are out for a thrill or drug addicts that need a quick $50 as well. The real pros, however, probably would take a whole car and are much harder to catch.

They'll be back on the streets in no time, unless they can convict them of a felony. But, in spite of our goofy legal system, Bert did good. These particular burglars won't go in Bert's neighborhood again.

they got them on 2 felonies from one house across the street. they went into 3 of his 4 vehicles. the sheriff said that by going into this guys jeep something moved it up to a felony. thing is, ) and my neighbor across the streed is a state prison guard.we have some state troopers who live a little way up the street also.the deputy found out that they destroyed a cars dash board trying to rip out a stereo, but gave it up and left it hanging half way out of the dash. must have been too much work for em.

I heard of a guy that had several stereos stolen, so he glued razor blades to the back of the case. Don't know if it was effective.

great job bert!
great neighbors make great neighborhoods.
a few years ago me and my neighbor caught a guy, went from cars to house breaks for drug money. found out from the cops he was a wanted sex offender too. my father was a cop, i learned a little from him about taking someone down. you dont go near a mans castle. my dog would of gave him a nice greeting too if he got in
he was so brazen , he counted out all the change from a cup from my neighbors truck and left the pennies .
last but not least
we ended up getting rid of a neighbor whos son was selling drugs, herion. bad news since they moved in. one son is dead and the other doing time. i never felt bad for the father he was an a%$@#%#&, glad he moved out of state. he was the source of the problem to start with.
the good thing is the neighborhood is closer , more tight knit and friendlier now,

I hate theives, they don't have any motivation in life to get things the right way (work for them, earn them) they have to take something that others worked and earned. I have a way to describe such individuals " SCUMBAG LEACHES OF SOCIETY"

they don't know who OR how they were spotted. they were on a long walk and what I saw, were checking every vehicle they saw for open doors. If they were open they went through the gloveboxes, consoles etc. they seemed to be looking for paperwork and insurance/ registration paperwork. The deputy wanted the the guy across the street who had 3 of his 4 vehicles gone through to wake up and sign a report because, one of his vehicles was a jeep with a soft top ( why have a lock )IT had the doors locked which made the jeep & the other 2 cars on his property all FELONY counts.

Identity theft crimes are almost larger now than just scum looking to steal things to support drug/crack/meth habbits and its not going to get any better as long as we just slap people on the wrist and say...NO! NO! baaaaad person! That message we send out starts at very young ages.

If most people continue to choose not to funtion in a civilized manner as parents, families, communities and we do not get our priorities straight etc etc etc...than the punishment for crimes MUST be made harsher.....If not ... a safe or decent place to live will be harder to obtain and cost more than the average person can afford.....hmmm sounds like a bad horror movie from the early 70's don's ya think?

Rats in a cage my friends....Rats in a cage.

It's times like this when I really hate Money, power & what some will do for and with it

thank you. turns out the 2 guys were 17 & 19. the 19 year old got some icing on his cake with extra charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor ( 17 year old was somewhat intoxicated )

Check this out with a side of FOOD for THOUGHT.

My buddy from High School that now lives in Surprise Az. called me today....He got a call on his cell at work from the Sheriff's Dept and they told him that he had to open the front door to his house or they would...so he's like WT...!!...I'll be there in ten minutes!

Turns out they wanted his computer becaus his IP address was involved in the sale of two stolen Cardinals tickets....well he didn't do it ...so they took his computer to check it out anyways.

The detective in charge of web and Identity crimes told him it was most likely a 'strolling' wireless signal pick up.....even if your not using your PC or have it on....but if the router is active ...thats all they need and from the warmth and comfort of their car they can ride your highway and use your address to do all kinds of stuff! She recomended that if you use a wireless router or have wireless service to simply turn it off when your not using your PC.

I have heard of this before but WOW!....so now mine is turned off most of the time.

He also told me that just like on TV ....She was pretty hot looking.

Gee, Scott, thanks for the memory. "Champaigne days and caviar nights..."The tagline was "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams," actually.

Never understood the big deal about caviar. It tastes like fish eggs.. . .The detective in charge of web and Identity crimes told him it was most likely a 'strolling' wireless signal pick up.....
