Hi Guys,
Just wanted to share my experience with running the new Racemaster Ford GT40 Mk II hard bodies on GJets. Like many of you, I've only run lexan bodies on these chassis.
These cars we used had the hard bodies mounted onto the GJet chassis by way of a clip. These bodies are available on the SRT Chassis. Racemasters has released these bodies in 4 different liveries, which are actual copies of real cars that ran in the 1966 24 hour Le Mans race where they became known as the first American car to win that race, coming in 1-2-3.
Anyhow, the GJet chassis also had the heavier chassis weights installed and this combined with the hard body, sure made these cars sound different running on the track when compared to the lexan bodied GJets.
As you might think, these cars will run a bit slower, compared to running with lexan bodies, but once you get the feel of these bodies (have to enter and exit the turns slower, otherwise your car does an immediate flop onto its roof), they are just as fun to race!!!
If you get the chance to run this setup, you may have to trim (dremel) the front bottom edge of the body so it won't be scraping the rails. Should your body start scraping on the track as a result of slamming into another car or wall, all you need to do is hold the sides of the body, with it upside down and simply wiggle the chassis side to side and /or front to back and the body should snap back into place, and your ready to get under way. Whenever you remove the body off the chassis, you will have to place the clip (with its' wings pointing toward the rear tire) back onto the chassis first, and then mount the body back onto the clip/chassis.
My favorite body of the 4 is the red GT40 body. Unfortunately, in the 6-hour enduro we ran these in, my team was given the black one to race with. This got to be a REAL challenge when we raced in the 3rd 90-minute segment in the dark (actually dimly lit room) - we got to install a grain of wheat bulb for a light on the car. At one point, our car crashed and the wiring broke and one of my teammates drove in complete darkness. He accomplished a couple of laps before we had to pit to put in another light.
In any case guys, if you're into the GT40 bodies, don't miss these!!! When we brought these bodies out before our race, alot of the guys were really impressed with how well these bodies were done. It's no wonder it says "The most highly detailed HO slot cars ever produced." on the packaging these cars came in.
Enjoy!!!
