View Full Version : Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi...

I find myself watching this show Wednesday nights when I'm not working in the studio. Yep, I know there are never definitive substantial results. Doesn't matter. I still enjoy watching it.
Now, their Halloween special at the Eastern Penitentiary was worse than watching paint dry - I taped it and zipped through most of it. It was hilarious watching them stare intently at a toy ball (live!) waiting for it to move. I get a kick out of the techno-babble (I imagine its like quack health "rejuvenators" from the 1800s).
I do prefer that over the ghost shows that feature mediums and spiritualists - I want to see proof, dammit!
I watch it for the same reason I read about UFOs and the Loch Ness monster - while common sense and lack of solid evidence says they don't exist, a part of me still hopes against all odds that they are indeed "out there"...
When I first wrote the title, I called it "A guilty pleasure". But I removed that part - nothing guilty about it. And judging by the way Sci-Fi is playing it and other similar shows, alot of people feel the same way.

I think Sci-Fi needs a show called "Zombie Hunters" where they dig up dead bodies and watch them for an hour to see if they reanimate. :freak:

You shouldn't make fun of that sort of stuff, Lee. You never know when it might come back to bite you in the backside.

I finally saw some "Ghost Hunters" episodes over the Thankgiving holidays, they were just a bore. I laugh at "Most Haunted" but "Ghost Hunters" doesn't even rate a laugh, its just dull. My opinion only.

We don't really need that. They are already giving us
ECW where Zombies pick up and throw each other around
to see if they re-animate after a fall. :jest:

I love zombie stuff. I just don't think it, like real-life ghost hunting, translates well to reality TV. I'd rather see specials and documentaries--more concentrated goodness that way.

Cool links, BTW!

Looking at Randi's web site makes me want to vomit- what DOES that guy believe in? Must be a lonely old frustrated man.

Logic, reason... hmmm I guess man has all the answers after all ('specially Randi) I bet he's a fun guy to hang with.

I appreciate Randi - even read (and keep a copy of) his book "Flim-Flam". We need skeptics. Does it change the way I feel about my religion? No, that involves my faith - which I question enough on my own! And I support his exposure of quacks and mediums who mislead and take advantage of people who are in need of comfort and closure. I can't stomach John Edwards and his ilk.
But as I said, I'll read any book and watch just about any show purporting to revealevidence of flying saucers, ghosts, the Loch Ness Monster, etc.

Houdini and Charles Dickens were famous skeptics. I think they had pretty good and productive lives.

In that light I guess you are right- there are alot of people being missled.

I agree! and todays TV will do anything for a buck....God its like those TV shows and commercials we saw on Robocop for crying out loud! :p

BUT!
When myth and legend meets historical fact many years later...thats when I get interested.

I saw one program that talked about the Piper in Scottland that people still see and hear to this day. The old legend/story says that he was captured by the 'other side' etc etc and later when they found him warning his people from a distance by using a certain song NOT to return to castle...they cut his hands off and soon after passing from his wounds they buried him with in the castle's courtyard. Well ...much later in the 70's or 80's while doing renovations they found 'a' body buried 'in the courtyard' with no hands.

Or the Soldier during the Cival war who they thought was toast was tossed in a mass pile of bodies only to discover after him alive after being there for (I think it was two agonizing days ) they tried to help him but he soon died of his wounds...his spirit still haunts the Barn....OUCH!

There are plenty of photos from the 1800's and early 1900's that show very strang things....sorry...they had NO photo shop or tricks in the very early days of film processing.

Our country's Cival war areas have of the strongest hauntings in the whole world.

Just think what is was like for that soldier who was there with all those dead bodies ....that is fact...its in the Dr. logs and in a family letter. eegahds!

Bigfoot, UFO's, ghosts....its all good.
