Hey guys, not sure how many of you have ever read TC&M magazine but I thought I should pass word along that they're closing their doors for good and their next issue will be their last. I was never a huge fan of the Mag but I have read it on occasion and it was pretty good. Just sad to see it go, one less window for the hobby. We're lucky to have one of their most respected columnists as a member over on the other board I'm on and he's got plans for the future but can't say what's up for right now. Here's a link to Joe's site, Playing with cars. It's awesome, check it out. It's more for 1:18 but you can't beat his reviews and he's got an ear to the ground unlike any other. Hope you guys will support him, he's a true soldier for our hobby.

Crank up your sound! If you click on latest review that'll take you in to meet Joe. All his reviews are posted on there, his current is for Yat Ming's new 62 Starfire. Hope you like it guys.

Nice site. I love that 62 Starfire that featured there, always have. I'd like to have a 1:1 of that. Now if only someone would make a 1:64 model of it, I'd buy plenty of them.

I'm really dissapointed to hear this, having subscribed since almost the begining. There always was a little too much about Hot Wheels, but there was some good info in there.

Terry,

Joe Kelly Jr, I imagine you're familiar with him - he did 1:18 reviews for TC&M, is a very active member in the other forum I'm a member of (Diecast Pub). He's confirmed that they won't be publishing the magazine any longer and he's said he'll be getting word back to us as to his future plans, he has something in the works but wasn't in a position to say at this time. How it all came to light was originally by John from Custom Diecast Replicas, we're all in the same modding forum, he got a letter from TC&M themselves stating that they had appreciated his long time advertising support but they had decided after the forthcoming issue that they were going to shut down.
Quite a few guys are in the same boat as you as far as subscriptions go, some fully subscribed for the next 2 years, so there's been some grumbling over there as well. So far the company hasn't officially announced it to the public, as far as I know anyways. This is kind of coming on the heels of a few other company closures. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's for real...

That's too bad but I can't say I'm surprised. I actually had two or three articles published by TC&M back when it was a newsprint format. I subscribed for a while but let it go a number of years ago because there just wasn't enough in every issue that was of interest to me and the data always seemed old.

I cant believe it ... I also have many years left on my subscription .. There is no inkling of problems there .. Also printed / delivered on time . Has subscription fallen too low to sustain it ?? They recently started a web site too .. I have subscribed since the begining when they broke off of Toy Shop magazine . Has the diecast market dwindled this much , that no one supports it ?? I have never seen this Diecast X magazine to know what its about ....

Guess I won't be getting my annual subscription for christmas like years past. A shame I enjoyed reading it every month.

What's happening with the remainder of the issues left on our subscriptions? Anyone know?

Apparently they're going to be running the website but it's not necessarily going to be what it is now. I don't really know the details as far as that goes. From my understanding, subscription rates had been in gradual decline for awhile now. With forums like this one up and going these days, it seems that it was too hard for them to stay on top of stuff before the guys in the hobby. Take this thread for instance. They haven't officially announced it but we already know. LMAO. I think this is part of the problem....

Plus alot of their info has been kinda wacked out. Who needs a Hot Wheels price guide in EVERY issue? Sorry to the Hot Wheels guys, not pickin a fight or anything, but it seemd like they were struggling to fill space. I've only bought occasional issues and outside of Joe's reviews and the odd article, there wasn't a whole lot there for me.

But ya, I'd hold off on sending those subscription cheques guys!

It would have been nice to get Matchbox and JL prices in there too since the newer HW's are not going to go up in price from month to month. I still hate to see the magazine end. Now what am I going to read when I'm taking a dump?

What will I do for a calendar over my desk? Everybody in this place has the same stinkin' muscle car calendars except me - I have my TC&M calendar every year. I'm just bummin'!

Well, I will just add one more thing...I don't know Joe Kelly Jr, and was not even aware of his hanging out on the net in any board....but this guy is a MONSTER!

I have to say that many, MANY months, His Route 1:18 was the HIGHLIGHT of each issue. I only have 10 1:18 scale diecast, so I was not even his audiance, but I always thought he was one of the best review writers in the business!

Keep us updated with his plans, I look forward to reading more of his work. He type of writing truly makes this hobby fun!

Stang,

Joe is on The Pub quite often, he usually posts when he's done his new episodes of "Playing With Cars". I'm not sure if you checked the link I posted but I think he's got about 8 video reviews posted on there now and he's far enough on the inside loop that he has pre-production stuff!lol. He's an awesome guy, I'm not personal friends with him or anything don't get me wrong. I have had a few correspondences back and forth with him regarding models, he and I share a common taste in some cars so it has sparked some convo. His photography is excellent and he films everything from inside his display room, which is impressive in itself. His site shows his setup and he's got some pics from construction and whatnot. I just wanted to let you guys know what he was up to and Joe is a true spokesman for us collectors. Hobbytalk is more aimed at the smaller stuff but I know there's a few guys out there that this will hit home with, I'll keep you guys up with what I hear. I imagine Joe will be posting on his site before long, at last word he was going to be letting everybody know what's up sometime this week. Thanks for the interest guys.

Since I just recently resubscribed, I called their Cust Svc Dept and spoke with a Supvsr. She advised all paid subscriptions for magazines issues after the final Feb 08 edition will be refunded by the publisher. Also to be
discontinued is the sister publication Toy Shop! So it is not just diecast info that is being discontinued!

What are these publishers thinking? If they went to Scott Moen's house, his collection alone could keep the magazine going for at least another 2 years!

That I hadn't heard anything about but that's not really my game. Apparently one of the guys form over on the Pub had spoken with them as well. They said they would be either transfering subscriptions or offering refunds so I guess a guy really isn't getting taken or anything but it's still not a good deal. I guess the one thing a guy can take away form this is that these mags need our support. Diecast X is still going but it might not appeal to the same audience as TC&M. From what I can tell, it's a rocky time to be in this hobby. Companies that we've grown to consider institutions are closing up shop and it gives ya a scary feeling. I would say the next few years are going to be interesting to say the least.

I just recieved my Jan issue today . No mention of any problems .. I like the ads in there too for pics of upcoming releases ... Not all the info in the mag is easily found on the web ... The only problem I have is their address label doesnt have a date on it for your Subscription expiration . I think mine was to 2011 ...... From buying their multi year subscriptions to get the special car offers ..

Sorry to see it go. I kept saying I was gonna subscribe, but never did. I would just pick it up every month at the local hobby shop, until he closed down.

I've never heard of Diecast X, or have I seen it in a hobby shop. Anyone got info on them?
