View Full Version : Is Razor the lead-in to a prequel series?
Jim NCC1701A 12-03-2007, 05:56 AM Just a thought.
They've got the 'old' Centurion, Raider and BaseStar designs.
The old-style Colonial flightsuits.
The Galactica sets are already there.
And young "Husker" Adama has been cast.
What'd you think - a series that starts at (or just before) the beginning of the first Cylon war? Though I doubt we'd see all 12 and a half years of it...
TAY666 12-03-2007, 09:30 AM I know there has been talk of a prequel series for a few years now.
Think they are calling it Caprica.
Thing is, they just can't seem to get the greenlight to go ahead and do it.
In other words, Sci-Fi won't approve the money for it yet.
Griffworks 12-03-2007, 01:42 PM It might be a bit backwards in this, actually - "Razor" might somewhat be the result of them getting ready for "Caprica".
Jim NCC1701A 12-03-2007, 03:12 PM Seem to recall hearing that Caprica had been scrapped?
IIRC, that series was supposedly going to be set before the first war, and would've been more about two families - the Adamas and another whose name escapes me...
Griffworks 12-03-2007, 06:27 PM Yes, what I mean is that they likely did some pre-production work on costumes and possibly even sets/props/CGI artwork and possibly episode plot points before it was scrapped. Instead of letting the stuff go to waste, RDM and Eicke likely thought "Hey, let's use elements of this story then we can get some use of the actor who looked great for Adama, the costumes and those CGI Retro-Cylons!" Thus, "Razor" was born using "flashback" elements for a young Adama in the first Cylon War.
Just a theory, nothing concrete.
Still haven't seen "Razor", but hope to in about two weeks or so.

From what Eick and Moore have said, I'm not sure if "scrapped" is the right word. "Back-burnered" might be better.

Ah. Sorry Jeff, was morning when I posted - about your midnite - and I wasn't quite up to full speed in the thinking dept...
ClubTepes 12-03-2007, 10:36 PM I think people are simply reading too much into this.
I believe that Razor was simply something to hold us over to the new season.
The producers saw how much people like the whole Pegasus thing and instead of giving us 22 regular episodes, saw that they could give us something 'special' that they could sell a seperate DVD for, thereby increasing the overall profits.
The fact that the DVD is a longer version of Razor and comes out only a few days after the episode aired also supports this idea.
Infact, its also a new trend to increase DVD sales by offering more 'content' than what the regularly aired episode offers.
