Boat Racer

I'm thinking about building a Losi XXX-T CR 1/10 Electric Race Truck and get into the electric off road racing. As a nitro guy, I am clueless on motors and speed controls and everything. Any input would be helpful.
Thanks

well first things first. how big is your wallet? that will decide your means of propulsion, since it is your first venture into off road racing I would highly recommend a stock motor. also If you can afford it I would consider you look into a brushless system I just started running one this year in my off road buggy and I don't miss stock brushed motors one bit. so look into a brushless system that is a stock equivalent. usually about 13.5turn brushless. the complete system will run you about 160 for a decent setup. or about 240 for a full racing setup. but I assume that since your into boating you already have a 2ch surface radio. so that mainly leaves batterys. I would recommend taking a look at lipoly batterys. they last a long time. they are cheaper in the long run and they are light weight. but if you don't want to dish out the bux for lipo then any nimh 6cell pack will do you just fine.

Sean,
Thanks for the information. Where can I read about turns, brushless, and all the other terms used to figure out what is what.

well I see that it says your live in h, Ohio. so I can only assume that that stands for Hillard Ohio? if so why don't you stop by sometime to crcrc to talk shop, any racer there would be more than willing to help you out with whatever you need. electric racing is held on Sundays doors open at 9 am and here is the site http://www.crcrc.com/ so if you get the chance stop by sometime, you will learn more there from talking with the racers than any magazine or article could ever teach you.
