Ok, my Dremel has died.
So of course I took it apart to see what I could find...
What could I hurt?
What I found is that one side of the field coil has an open.
I guess this is why the Dremel no longer works...

Just wondering, but would it work if you soldered it together?

Hi Scott,

An obvious break that appears repairable...? Or the harbinger of death...an invisible open deep in the winding.

If so, the next question is, "Have you been a good boy this year?" My insurance strategy would be to leave it disassembled on the kitchen or rec room table...might even get one before Santa shows up.

I can't see the open...
It is not jumping out at me.
So I guess it is time for a Dremel...
*sigh*

Dude, They are only 40 dollars at the most. eyeamlaffing. I understand the withdrawls you must be going thru. I am currently recharging my cordless just in case I do get the urge to avoid the laundry and CREATE.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but for about 25 years I had a model 370 Dremel with the rotary speed control and it always performed perfectly. It finally wore out and I bought a new one with a 5 position speed control and a fancy case to hang on the wall. After about 6 months it barely works at all. The contacts in the speed control are shot. I can tell because when you jiggle the switch it starts working for a while. Does anyone else have this problem? I will probably try to get a new switch but I feel it will be an ongoing problem. I'm now using a cheapie from Menards and it works great.

That happens once in a while to me too. I raise so much dust that is always gets into the unsealed switch. Fire up your compressor and blow that lil bugger out!
