Since my father was a Marine in the 1950's and I write a column for Toy Shop Magazine, this was a no-brainer for me. Every year I gather up a few dozen new, unopened toys and donate them to the Marine Corps' Toys For Tots organization. They do an amazing job sorting and distributing the toys to children and families who can use them around this time of the year.
In a time when many of us are searching for greater meaning in our lives, this is such an easy way to make a difference. One action figure, one die cast car, one model kit, one teddy bear, one playset - it takes so little to ensure that the holidays will be a bright, wonderful season for everyone. And donating will make you feel great, as well.
This year, there are collection boxes at all Toys R Us and Babies R Us locations, and many other businesses and organizations will have them out as well. To find a convenient location in your neighborhood, click here to visit the Toys For Tots website: http://www.toysfortots.org
Now is the time to help a child who may otherwise receive nothing at all this holiday season.
Thanks so much for reading this and helping.
