The Moutain 11-26-2007, 10:40 PM should be bus not buss :drunk:
don’t know if this was shown here before, the tow guide width variation on the rw and sf greyhound bus. with little differences in the lettering too.

karl-e 11-27-2007, 04:30 PM A variation I wasn't aware of  No matter how many refrence-books I get, there is always more non-recorded variations out there :freak:
Thanks for showing!
Lummox 11-27-2007, 09:50 PM Had no idea of a painted base on 'ol #66!

I have seen these Greyhounds with pink baseplates too. Many 1970-71 issues were made with baseplates in lemon (as per 38 Victor),pink, gun metal, light green (as per 31 Lincoln) and metallic green (as per 31b Ford stationwagon) using up old stocks of regular wheel paint intended for deleted or recolored models
Lummox 11-28-2007, 11:12 PM Now THAT is interesting!
The Moutain 12-04-2007, 07:23 PM thanks. i wonder if there will ever be a complete list or a complete list of variations within variations. :)
i have a few odd lists of variations. one interesting list deals with the interior of the rw 47 ice cream truck. there are many combinations listed within the interior, beside the more noticeable legs and brace location differences ( with different size braces ). the thickness of the brace makes the front seat a little higher or lower. the server nozzle area to the right side of the man a different size, plus the line above the nozzle higher or lower. to the left side of the man, the rim of the ice chest can be at least three different widths, plus different size ice chests.
in greater detail, there are different buttons and pockets on the men’s jackets. large and small pockets or v-shaped pockets plus different size and spacing of the buttons. i tried to get a good picture of the jackets. the pocket size doesn’t show up too well, the buttons on the left jacket are closer together than the other two jackets.
who knows how many more combination there are? there is something with the ice cream cone too.

carried over from another thread.
lummox, good point about the cutouts on the 22 pontiac. seems reasonable that there would be a red sf. i don’t always doubt the existence of a model, just nice to know the origin.
sms88, i guess the red/green sf44 truck would be a true transitional. that is always a fun topic too.
a nice trio.

SMS88 12-05-2007, 06:05 AM Nice to see the red/green SF issue -if its in Mountain´s collection that implies it came from regular shop stock  I see the yellow 44 on the left is the thicker wheels issue whereas the other pair appear to have narrow wheels.I have these 2 wheel types on my pair of SF44. A rather dull model with rw, most definitely brightened up with the chrome trim of SF.Both this and the red/silver/green GMC tipper are a rather ugly dated cab design and I wonder why Lesney chose them when they had DAF, Leyland and Ford D series cabs which looked much more uptodate by comparison.........
Lummox 12-05-2007, 08:18 PM "Regular shop stock" - as apposed to what? What does this term mean? - Thanks.
I always liked that GMC cab. Maybe not on the Tipper, but #44 was cool with me.
Also always liked all the different foriegn brands you'd see in the MB line up,
but as a Yank I liked seeing any of the few USA brands represented. I got a kick out of
seeing something on the street that was(is still!) in my 48 car "Matchbox" case. You know - the one with the GT-40 on it. ;) :)

Regular shop stock means toys which went out of the factory gate the legal way and sold by wholesalers and retailers
Some Lesney factory workers made lunchbox specials for collectors back in 1969-72 - these probably include the green box, yellow cab no44, the red rw no15 VW ,the red SF22 Pontiac, the silver no12 LandRovers and the crimped axles reverse colors 13 wreckers - rare variations cooked up by the workers to earn some extra beer money
I also have that Ford GT 48 car case -my Lesneys are on display so the case is full of Playarts these days
Lummox 12-06-2007, 03:13 PM Gotchya - thanks.
Nothing beats the charm of those old cases. I couln't believe my luck a few years ago at a flea market I found the 72 slot sf case with the #33 Muria in brand spanking new condition for just a few dollars. Like $5 or $10 at the most! You seen a pic of it in a group shot of mine. To me the 72 holers aren't to user friendly though - unfortunately.
One thing I forgot I have is the blue vinyl "MB USA Play & Game Case" from 1970 I got one Christmas.

I traded a few spare cars with Karl-E here last easter for a good 72 car case with the 33 Muira on the front (with the KingSize dark red Muira in 3rd place!) and I agree that its a hassle opening and loading, with the drawer design making viewing all at the sametime difficult. However 72 slots for 70 Superfast cars of the 1971 1-75 catalog fit in rather well (Alvis,16 bulldozer,Harvester plus tractor + trailer are regular wheels in 1971) and thats how I use my case  - extra holes go for 3 no 12s LandRover and gold plus yellow Setras.
