I was trying to get a 6 HP HM 60 to run without choke 50% closed. Some one had rebuilt the carb and installed the longer - looks like a really sharp lead pencil tip- high speed screw and bowl nut. I repalced the sharp pointed longer tip with the shorter - looks like a broken lead pencil put tip is flat- and now runs great. I know the screw and nut are a matched set so an old use screw with nut were salved from my old spare parts - always save the old stuff  How do you know which Tec. carb take the longer screw or shorted screw? The differance in length is maybe 3/16 inch? Do all the 7 HP and bigger HP engines just use the longer sharp pointed screw? This drove me nuts because the engine would start great and carb was spotless but I could never get the engine into high RPM range after countless times trying to turn the HS screw in and out. Ran for 30 seconds then died boo hoo.The shorter screw seems to flow more gas? The match between the correct screw and the HS nut with 1 or 2 holes is a problem to check too.So when is a shorter screw better?

Just out of curiosity, the Tec svc manual for 3-11 hp L heads doesn't show HM60, only HM70-100, what's the model and spec #'s on this motor, and, what kind of equipment is it on ??
thanks,
