Well no one else has bellied up to the bar so I thought I would.

Went to see this with the kidlets. We were all mildly optimistic about enjoying it. We were all mildly disappointed.

It's a take on fractured fairytales like Shrek was, but instead of animated characters having a real-world awareness (kinda cute) it's real world characters having animated fairytale powers (kinda disturbing).

Like when the princess summons the Manhatten's critters to clean up her benefactor's apartment, they show up; but in typical NY style we have rats, pigeons and cockroaches to whistle while they work. The only chuckle I got was watching one of the 1 legged pigeons gobble a cockroach while the princess was heaping praise on the bunch for their efforts.

Most of the time it was: "I can't believe they did this" corny or just weird. Like the evil step mother queen disguised as an old hag. They went beyond my need for information to show in loving detail her rotting teeth as she hacked out a cackle.

All the while I was wondering if cartoon characters experience real-world needs. I kept expecting them to have to take a leak and not understand what that was all about...

Lot of "easter eggs" trying to figure out references to other Disney vehicles, but unless you're a collector of trivia it wasn't that much fun.

And the princess wasn't a babe. Just kinda shrill and naive.

Strangeness. 1.5 thumbs down.

I saw ads for that and thought it looked amusing. I think you've given a very good review of it from about the same perspective I would have.

Wife and daughter went to see it yesterday. Glad I wasn't with them. Loved Amy Adams in Junebug.

Hmmm ... 92 percent at Rotten Tomatoes. Being a Disney freak, I've got to see this sooner or later.

Well, I stayed through it, but I noticed several people get up and leave about halfway through. Maybe they missed the beginning of the previous show though.

Yeah that 92% on the ol'tomato meter makes me wonder if it's me.

naw....

Take the kids to see Mist instead. It's a better film. ;)

I did. The kidletts and I went (they're 14 and 12) a couple nights after seeing Enchanted. Mist refreshed our souls to watch a good'ol B horror movie with some interesting characters. :p

Mabey an occasional story read aloud by candellight is sometimes better than going to the theater, staring at a bad movie, and wasting $30-$50? When telling or reading a story, you can stop and discuss somthing or let someone go to the bathroom or whatever.

Some of us can tell a good story. Me not so much. But I enjoy taking my kids to a flick we can critique afterwards.

I hear ya about story tellers though. Like reading a good book.
