I have a question for some pros. Is there any tricks on making a 27 turn motor faster other than oilling the bushings and cleaning it. As well as changing the brushes and that basic stuff Comm cutting Etc..

Is there any way to make a 27 turn motor faster for someone that doesent have the nice comm cutter and stuff just general stuff.

Thanks Taylor

Unfortunately, it usually takes over a year to learn how to be a good motor tuner. There is a lot to learn. If you don't have a comm lathe, I would recommend using a comm stick to clean the comm and brushes. This can extend the life of the last tuneup.

You can also send your motor in to a tuner for a few bucks. This might be a good option to do every so often. Especially if you feel you'll convert to brushless in a year or so.

Big Jim has passed away, but he was the authority on brushed motors. It will take you almost a year just to read all of the posts about motor tuning. But if you want to learn, Big Jim's old forum still has the posts online here. (http://www.rccars.com/forums.php?action=view_forum&forum_id=19)

too my knowledge there isnt much you can do without a comm cutter, brush serrato/cutter, hood alignment tool, or brush drilling jig. like you said, cleaning and oiling the brushes and comm is the only thing you do without those tools listed above. you can send your motors out however. companies such as Putnam Propulsion (www.putnampropulsion.com) and others will gladly rebuild your motor for a small fee. or you can buy the brushes of your choice and ask someone at your local track if they will cut your comm and install the brushes for you. but be sure to break the brushes in

When you're ready to get serious about motors, send me a PM.
I have a diamond bit lathe, and brand new Integy brush cutter I'll give you
a good package deal on.

Until you can cut your own comm, and trim/slot your brushes,
you'll continue to be slower than the ones that do...

You could get a motor already tuned from a pro builder like Eric Anderson. www.teameamotorsports.com This motor will come to you with some tricks already done for example: the com trued, the best spring combo, dyno tuned and correct shimming. The problem is without a lathe you will not be able to keep the motor consistent as it wears. You really need a good lathe before you get to serious about a motor. Honestly if you are just starting out get your car right first. The fastest motor out there will not do you any good with a car that is not set up correctly.

Yep, get a good hard brush and dip it. I have run motors 25 runs or so like that. Talk to Mudd of Muddslide Motorsports he can hook you up with the stuff you need for dipping, and maybe hook you up with some brushes.

Or you could let EA do all the work.

Most of the time people at the track will hook you up if you ask them when they are working on their motor. I know I had no problem cutting a comm for a fellow racer if I already had my lathe out. Hope you get the answers you need.
