I received mine Saturday, what a nice piece of work. If you are thinking Lipo, give one of these trays a try, fits perfect. Thanks Randy.

Hey AJ -- there are a couple of us "thinking" LiPo .. but where the heck is anybody actually running LiPo on a regular basis vs. just "playing with it". ??

Have been running Lipo here in N. Az.A.K.A. (finishlinefamilyrc club) for a year now, started with a 6.5 brushless, 5.5, then 4300 (10.5) Recently went to a 17.5. GREAT fun (serious!) No battery issues at all! :woohoo: Using the Orions only.Using the same pack I bought in Jan.!

You get to be the PIONEER - LOL

We're going LIPO in '08 as much as we can (Calif - SWTour Series) Testing looked pretty good this season - and I'm excited about the '08 season...

Still far away from you but Debbies Hobbies in Chesapeake, VA - Carolina RC Complex and the RC-Oval series are and will be racing LiPo Brushless.

Yup... but that's about 1,000 miles too far in the other direction .. LOL.

1-car heats aren't much fun :-(

Jeff, as usual, I'm the renegade, I've been running them all summer on dirt oval and it makes racing so easy, it's unbelieveable. I ran the B, won the B and bumped to the A and ran the same battery, it was a 4800 Orion, and at the end of the A the lap times were the same as the beginning of the B, and no charging between the races.

I know that Murdock is doing some testing and several guys in Omaha are running 17.5 with the 10.5 4-cell and being very competitive. Some have even shoe-gooed the battery to the chassis. I have both the 3200 and the 4800 and can't really tell a hugh difference on the track and they run forever.
I think the 21.5 and lipo could be a very good class.

I'll keep testing and keep you posted as to the results. SWTour has done a lot of research and lots of the guys out there are giving in and going strickly lipo, it is so much easier.

Right now most of our guys are practicing and getting ready to run the BRL and aren't interest in making the investment, but I'm sure that this summer there will be several that finally see the light.

I know that Hays is very interested in the lipos and this summer will probably be the breakout season.

OK.. thanks for all the info, AJ.

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and bolt one in a car and bring it to Triclone and start running it around the track on the rug. Maybe start to drum up some interest that way to start :-) I've got an LRP Sphere Comp sitting on the bench -- I think they do LiPo.

I'm really hoping we can go with LiPo and 21.5 motors outdoors on the "high banks" next summer.

Where did you get your LiPo's from ?

Thanks again.
Jeff.

We have been running the lipo's for the past four weeks at the SpeedZone in S. Sioux City, Nebraska. We have been running the 10.5/4cell guys and gal with the 17.5/lipo guys and gal. Of the ten entries in that class yesterday we had only( I believe) two that were using 4 cell packs and the rest were lipo. We also had a 4 cell battery explosion in the pits.

Rob Murdock and I ( his dad) also tested the 21.5 with a lipo all day Friday at the track. Imo it is just ever so slightly faster than a brushed stock motor. But I believe it would be a big class and a good replacement class for 4 cell brushed stock. It is what I will go to when we have enough that convert because I liked the speed of brushed stock. It was about .2 slower than a non-sintered 13.5/4 cell which at our track would be 1.5 to 2 laps.

I posted some results from the track over on the Topic--Brushless Oval Racing under 21.5, 17.5 or brushed thread post #6. Testing is continuing.

Imo 17.5/lipo, 13.5/ 4 cell 21.5/lipo would be an excellent oval track race program. There will be a transitioning period of time if the lipo's really take off. That's why we need a class for 4 cell for those who don't want to go to lipo right away or ever. Time will tell. But tracks have to be flexible because its the racers who will decide how far the lipo's go.

Many companies will be selling lipo's. Rob at Windtunnel has brought them in and they are selling as quickly as they get here. The chargers are inexpensive also.

Hope I am not to far off topic but this is what I am seeing over in this part of the country. Hope that helps.

Thanks Bill.

I didn't realize Rob had LiPo's -- whose is he carrying ? 3200 ? 3600 ? 4800 ?

I don't believe they are on the shopping cart at this time. The popularity of these lipo's kinda took him by surprize. I think they are 3200 and 4700. They are direct to Windtunnel.

Thx AJ -- I see Orion now has a 3600 too.

I ran the 21.5/lipo yesterday with the 13.5 cars. The combo isnt any faster than 13.5/4 cell combo, the only down fall that I see is that you need large pinions and small spurs to get rollout up in the 3.70+ range. Thanks Novak for a great motor.

Thanks for the info !!

That's what I want to do at our track -- I was hoping that the 21.5 LiPo would be close to 13.5 4-cell so that I could run the car in that class. It's going to be a while before we can get enough guys convinced to go to LiPo, so having it running on the track on a regular basis will help I think.

Thx !

So what was the difference for you between 13.5 4-cell and 21.5 LiPo ?? How many teeth ?

Thx.

Last week I ran 13.5/4 cell with a 3.47 rollout, this weekend I ran 3.80 rollout and the motor came off cooler than last weekend.

Randy,
It's hard to tell from the 2 pictures. Are the slots also cut to hold sub-C cells as well?

I had a question on it too-- can u slide the LiPo pack in and out ? Or is it just one position ?

AJS
12-03-2007, 11:52 AM
Yes it will hold sub-c cells, but you will have to tape them in.

Jeff, if you use the hold down plates you can not move the battery in or out, but you can move it forward and back.

I got a 21.5 and I will be doing some lipo testing soon and let you know how it compares.

Cool -- I'm just going to tape my 3200 pack in -- I'm going to try to run a 21.5 with the 13.5 4-cell class this coming weekend at Triclone if they will let me. I'll pull the transponder out if needed so no one complains. We'll see.

wade,

Randy makes new trays for

KSG Gen1
KSG Gen2
and
HyperDrive Pro3

These look great, work great and one of the best things is that he make the area where you mount the ESC bigger, so it's not so hard to mount all your electronics on the LH side.

I wish he would make them so you can slide the pack in or out too -- or is this not so much of an issue with the lighter LiPo packs?

With the LIPO pack being as light as it is...I run mine as far OUT as I can get it...even where I might run a NiMh pack in a bit.

If you want something different - Randy is very creative....give him a shout and tell him what you are interested in....he does custom work too.

Randy, If you have made up any L3 top motor plates that will accomodate the Novak Brushless heatsink could you bring me one Sat. I'll be there regardless how wet the day starts out. Thanks, K... See Ya at the Velo......
