Why can't I find this anywhere? not even on ebay...

I've found a few 71 Impalas, and the thunderbirds, but no caprices... what gives??

Are they not out yet?? or all gone?

I saw the 77 Caprices in stores exactly TWICE in the last year. The first time, I found them at Wal-Mart, and then about a month ago, I saw them at TRU. Both times, they were all gone by the next time I went back.

It's strange they call it a '77. It's could be either a '75 or a '76.
Them big 'ol land barges were downsized in sebendee-seben.

They are in fact 76 Caprices. I found them once or twice at Wal-Mart, one time at TRU. The 71's are the ones I am not finding anywhere....

I've got a great idea... once the American Graffitti and Fresh Cherries fizzle out, Motormax should make a DEMO DERBY line.. Flat colors, crazy paint jobs, steel wheels... the 77 and 71 chevys would look awesome! so would some of the others... especially the wagons... put some headers through holes in the hood... leave out the glass...

On the History Channel they had an episode on how well these Impala's from that year made great cars to use in demolition derbys.

Are you going by the square headlights?
'Cause in '75 they had square headlights on Chevys too - I thought.
I know for sure lots of other cars did.

My mom had a 75 (round headlights), bought brand new, sometime later she was given a 76 as a loaner (square headlights).
It was funny to me because the cars were exactly the same model, colors (silver with red top and brocade interior), everything. Absolutely identical except the headlights.

True. Some 1975 GM cars had square headlamps, but not the Caprice. In fact, the Caprice went to the square headlamps in 76, but the 76 Impala didn't! The 76 Impala looked basically like a 75 Caprice but with plainer trim.

Chevy was funny that way in the early seventies. The current Impala always looked like the previous years Caprice.

Don't know about Chevy but the Pontiacs 75-76 came either way, the square headlights were part of a trim option.

They updated the packaging, I found one at Walgreens tonight labeled '76 Caprice.. I haven't seen the '71, but from the pics I've seen online the roofline looks wrong.

You are right on the 71, the roof is wrong, it seems to be a cross between the side window profile of the Custom Coupe and the rear window of the Sport Coupe, along with the Sport Coupe trunklid. Also, the rear taillight panel on the Impala was body colored, not chromed as the casting's is. That would be more correct for a Caprice. Still, there aren't many other 71's in this scale (the other that comes to mind is the Maisto convertible, labelled as a Caprice, which is wrong since in 71 the convertible was still an Impala, and it also has the Impala grille and Caprice tail panel) but unfortunately, it has those horrid DOnk wheels....

I have respect for people like me who study different years and models, etc.
I'm sure you seen this - you must like Collectable Automobile magazine?
It's awesome for this kind of info.

Yes, I have been subscribing to it since the late 80's. I always like the photos of the design studies they publish. Sometimes, I find the initial ideas look better than what actually came to be.

I found a dark red '76 Caprice and a black '71 Impala (both with green flames) at Wal-Mart. Soon after they had a clearance on the American Graf stuff and reduced them to $1. Of course, I got there just in time to see the empty pegs with the clearance signs attached. Before the sale they didn't seem to move off the shelf. Crap!
