View Full Version : 4c Packs per month?
latemodel100 11-15-2007, 10:34 AM How many 4c Packs you go through in a month, not including big races.
Please only post if you actually do change out packs everymonth or so, if your like some who dont get new ones, thats fine, but I know plenty of folks that get news ones alot jsut trying to do some projects for school with this accurate results required.................
JH Racing 11-15-2007, 10:43 AM If the packs are treated right you should not have to buy packs every week, month ETC.
latemodel100 11-15-2007, 10:57 AM I am sure there are a bunch that understand that, but that is not the question, I know guys that buy packs all the time, just trying to find out how many and when.
2Groovy4U 11-15-2007, 11:28 AM I would say 2 packs a month. This will keep fresh sticks in your car at all times.

jake86 11-15-2007, 11:32 AM You need to add 0 to the list above. I run my stuff for 6 months (If I race every weekend) and them I replace them.
HammerRacing 11-15-2007, 11:53 AM LOL new packs every month or week I have 3800's that are almost 2 years old and there still winning races
latemodel100 11-15-2007, 12:03 PM OK so if you don't get new ones all the time then don't post, I am looking at those who do change them out regularly......, Thanks for posting but trying to get some accurate results, thanks...............
ericsalvas 11-15-2007, 12:07 PM well...here's my point....even though my twin bros runs TQ CELLS...i'll go and say...0.....for example...we had a racer run with us last week...that guy last raced 6 month ago...he ran packs he bought in march...those 4200 mah we're in a ok condition...but when cycled...the voltage was down...he had 4.95v @ 120...wich i'll say is pretty low...we run weekly race stuff in the 5.0v range....i know alot of guys do have stuff WAY higher than this(like 5.06's)...but my twin bros and i proved in the past these # CAN be overcome with good handling cars(i won the biggest race of teh year...4 cell stock @ the snowbirds 2007...with a club race pack that cycled 5.01v!!!)...anyway...that guy that raced with us last week...i told him to gear a little higher...2.26 roll-out...instead of 2.20 range we normally run...this higher roll-out compensate the lack of voltage he has....voltage ...after all the math...RELY only on RPM...so gear acordingly...what is crucial...could be the reistance...as long as its low...the punch will be there...
normally a maintained pack will loose some voltage...and some runtime...but resistance should stay consistent....so you'll be fine...
the guy had a good handling car...and finished a mere second behind my brother and i....for a guy that raced only ounce in 6 month...against drivers i'd say that are national calibers...NOT BAD i'LL SAY!
work on your cars....and build from there....A LOT of racer rely too much on equipments...instead of work in the pits(setups)

latemodel100 11-15-2007, 12:32 PM Yeah CHASSIS is key, but thats not the point either Eric, thanks though I did learn something from your post, LOL.......... CHASSIS CHASSIS CHASSIS............
Just trying to find out how many actually get new packs say once a month or more, cause there are guys out there..................
L4OvalRacer 11-15-2007, 02:10 PM i get about 4 new packs a mounth. Can never have to many batteries. I have boxes of batteries anything from 1100mah to 4200mah.

latemodel100 11-15-2007, 03:03 PM Big Baller Taylor, holy cow man..............
Outlaw 44 11-15-2007, 04:21 PM Change the title of the survey to packs per year please.
latemodel100 11-15-2007, 04:45 PM Per Year why how many you use?
jblackburn 11-15-2007, 04:56 PM I don't get a chance to race very often, so when I do race I usually pick up 2-3 packs. Last year I made 5 races, and I probably bought 12 packs. But that is only 1 pack a month. I just picked up my first lipo pack, hopefully it will be the only pack for a while. But I'll probably pick up a spare pretty soon.
The Jet 11-15-2007, 05:59 PM Per Year why how many you use?
I'm one of the guy's your looking for... I try to get 4 new packs everytime Steve (TQCELLS) get's a fresh batch. It's not for performance reasons, I just like new stuff  . I can't tell you how many times I've loaned out my "older" stuff only to have the comment "That pack rocks" come back with it.
I have to admit, I'm terrible at maintaining packs and have ruined quite a few due to being hit in the head too many times :drunk: .
So in summary, I replace cells for the fun of it mostly.
Outlaw 44 11-15-2007, 06:55 PM Last year I bought 3 packs at the beginning and 2 mid-way, ran about 20 races and even practiced with the packs I raced with. Did the whole season with that. And I am sponsored. So 5 packs from the begining of October to the end of April, that makes for 0.7142857 packs per month, about .25 packs per race, not bad!
Just don't see the point in replacing them if the ones I got right now still put out good lap times.
Back in April at The Rock (St-Roch, Quebec) I ran a pack that had 4 months on it in the B main, My fastest lap was faster than some of the guys in the Amain, finished on the same lap as the leader overall, 10th out of 40+ racers. The A list was comprized of racers like Steve and Eric Salvas (TQ CELLS), Todd Putnam, Steve Peake, etc...The field was so competitive, Charly Gratts finished 5th overall out of the C main!
I know it's a pain in the butt, but maintenance makes your wallet go a long way. Save on batteries, invest more in tires!
jason crist 11-15-2007, 07:10 PM 2 a month
Racin'Jason 8 11-15-2007, 07:15 PM ...made it into the Snowbirds stock 'A' last Feb. on a JBR pack from the previous September.
Conclusion:
Buy good packs, run 'em forever, and spend your money where it counts...in the chassis.
Racin'Jason 8 11-15-2007, 07:17 PM Oh....the above statement is made assuming that you are methodical in your battery maintenance practice. If you don't take care of your cells....buy new ones every week.
ToddFalkowski 11-15-2007, 09:33 PM If I average it out, about one a month.
McLin 11-16-2007, 12:05 AM WOW.........no wonder why you guys are not going to LiPo's..........you would go into the DT's within 6 weeks because you wouldn't have to buy anything LOL
latemodel100 11-16-2007, 04:08 AM I heard that Lin........... Holy cow I wish I had some of those budgets, LOL
NCFRC 11-17-2007, 05:44 AM New packs at the beginning of the season , run them 20 weeks and we're
done for the year.
Next year I sell them off and I'm very surprised how strong these still run.
Local Club Level
Miss the old nicad days , they would get better and better as you used them
and you could use them for years.
Oh....the above statement is made assuming that you are methodical in your battery maintenance practice. If you don't take care of your cells....buy new ones every week. What is YOUR battery maintenance program?
popsss 11-17-2007, 02:31 PM im a small budget racer i got 2 4200 which i bought last may still practice with 3800's now they want me to get 4600's when does it stop.
on another point i know a guy in pa that bought 30 spec packs to get 1 he felt was good. my question is why race spec which should be a economy class and do all that?
Todd Putnam 11-17-2007, 09:01 PM Eric Slavas is correct: Chassis setup wins races, not sticks...
If you have a great car you can strap anything in and be fast-if your car is bananas, you're just trying to fire a cannon from a canoe...
Bret The Jet is also correct: He has AWESOME stuff! We both run for TQ Cells and he lent me one of his packs at South Glens Falls-and I set the 19 turn track record with it!!! Oh, and that pack DID rock! :woohoo:
Lesson To Be Learned: You do need packs to be fast...PRACTICE PACKS... then get to the track and wear them out making your car handle better...The best handling car has won far more races than the best pack ever has...or ever will.
latemodel100 11-17-2007, 09:31 PM Come on I know its Chassis, just trying to get a good sample for statistics....... help me out here, LOL
Keep voting on the polls.
jmccormick 11-17-2007, 09:33 PM Todd is %100 correct.. I did my personal best in 17.5 last week with a pack that was absolutely flat I never would have imagined running the laps I did. But a dialed chassis was the only reason it happened. I ran the same pack a few weeks back in 17.5 but in a different car and was almost 2 laps from what I managed with the new car. Now a dialed chassis and a good pack will net better results but again chasiss is first and foremost and good packs are just a bonus.
But to answer the post original question I have been running the same packs for almost a year now.... and I actualy purchased them as loose cells that where rejected by a local matcher as not good enough for race packs and I do Ok with them.
I just recently got a new pack and plan on a couple more but only due to the fact that i am running a second car.
latemodel100 11-17-2007, 09:35 PM Guys if your gonna come on here and chat at least vote for me thats why I started the thread, LOL.......................
There are too many threads out there to chat about batteries and chassis.......
VOTE on the POLLS, help a brother out man.........................
jmccormick 11-17-2007, 09:41 PM I cant vote LOL you dont have a zero as a option.......
But for the record about 3-4 packs a year.....and at one time I was sharing them between my 12th scale on road and oval car....so they got some serious use
Racin'Jason 8 11-18-2007, 12:36 AM What is YOUR battery maintenance program?
Ralf,
Everything you need to know is here...Steve did a great job of documenting the maintenance section.
