How many sets of tire do you go through a month, not including big races?

You might want to change to how many in X number of race days.

If I run 4 times a month I will go through 4 sets of tires.

Depends on the class I run and the track... But I would say I use on average a set per month per class***IF there are no big races..*** Big races change how I true tires.

Yeah it is tough sometimes. But every week I put a fresh set on car plus 1 extra RF per nite (asphalt). Now when I go home I take my tires and true them down to the RF size and put them on my son's car.

I dont run oval, but I do run 1/12 carpet. I usually go through a set every 2 race days. mainly fronts, the rears at that point can still be used as practice tires and back-ups in case of chunking.

I didn't reply on the battery pole, because I don't replace batteries like a lot of guys...

On the tire issue, I'm usually racing someplace 2-3 times a month...and usually run 2-3 cars per race, but I'm really CHEAP (and BROKE) and spend most of my money hosting/holding the races... vs. what I spend on the equipment I run. So unlike most...I get a LOT more out of a set of tires. I also practice very little... So for club racing, I would say approx. 1 full set per month (but it's probably less)

Now, if I raced where RAYMOND races...and with those guys...MAN - it would be at least 4-5 sets a month....cause I'd be wanting to BURN some laps.

In 10.5/19 turn, Black/white combo's on flat carpet, I can get 3 heats and the main 3 times out of a set, just to be clear...
Cut to 2.2 new, at the end of the night the RF is 2.18, I cut the rest to that size for the following week, then race at 2.18, then the following week race at 2.16, then they're down to 2.14, that's where I'm done with them.
ALWAYS RUNNING TM TIRES, rim size is 1.9, I believe in having over .050 rubber for sidewall flex.

The tire thing is up in the air. If you race with wall bangers you will go through a lot more from getting bounced around. If you race with guys who can race you without knocking the wall down or don't bounce around you can go a lot longer on a set. I used 2 sets in one night with a demolition heat and other time I can go a month on a set.

This is a very interesting poll. Now I understand that some people race twice a week or they may run a track with tight corners and other things that effect tire wear. Anyway, I may go thru one set of tires every 5 weeks if even that. It's not that I don't have access to more tires if I want ( since my son owns Windtunnel).

Now the track I ran on last year and the past several years, is 180' run line, 48' wide carpet. We run every week and each heat and main are about 70 laps. I practice at least 1 time before racing and sometimes twice. We run 3 heats and a main and sometimes we run a lapped main of 100 laps. Anyway that's at least 350 laps a week and over 5 weeks that's no less than 1750 laps on one set of tires.

I have almost zero DNF's and avoiding getting into a wreck is a priority. My car is set for very little steering in the corners and I always keep the front end aligned and working perfectly. I have several track point series wins and hold one of the track records and until last march had two.

Now I will run my tires right down to the rim. I adjust my roll out (of course) with gearing. The wheel I use is 1.80 dia.

Now I also don't like to put alot into my car. I gets worked on very little. I have the same car that I have had for at least three years or whenever it came out. Once I get the car feeling like I want I leave it alone. I make only minor adjustments with things like a shim or replacement of a spring and I always keep the front end aligned. but I put very little into the car including the tires.

Now on the poll I voted one set a month but I go a little longer on a set.

Interesting poll!!!!

Of course my program is very much the same as Ballisticbill mentioned. It is nothing out of the normal to run 4 to 5 weeks on 4 tires. Generally at that time depending on wear of course we will change tires and front springs. Rarely sooner than that.

Set you car up right with good balance and handling and there is no reason to change. DO NOT SOAK TIRES That will cause excess wear as well. If you need a 32 durometer tire (for example) buy a 32. Dont buy 38 and soak them to death. Wipe on wipe off, set the car to that method and you will have much better results in performance and tire life. 20 years of building tires I do know that much

Now also as Bill mentioned WT tire users can do this because of a 1.80 inch wheel as well.

I dont run much foam but I would say 2 sets a month when I run, on the other hand my caps last longer then 1 month so try 2 months or a little more. This is a good topic because when I started carpet I was tough on tires,But setup means as much on the Rug then it does on Asphalt or you will wear tires out.

Been running the same tires for 3 years. Started out with home mounted reds @ 3" diameter and have run them ever since. I'm slow but I still have money in my pocket.

BTW, finishing last is underrated......:)
