View Full Version : Question about Bad Carded Green Machine?
FastC6Vette 11-09-2007, 11:49 PM Hi,
I have a question about the value of a bad carded Green Machine. I had the MCG 1970 Mustang Convertible from Series 1, which is one of 50 made. The clamshell has some issues - there are some light scuffs/scratches, a dent on the blister, and the orange cardboard is sun-faded. The car itself, however, is perfect.
Considering this to be an "opener", what would you value this at? The only car I saw brought $157.51 on eBay in a mint package. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
Drdealone 11-10-2007, 05:52 AM Subtract 40% of current mint card resale value for bad card.

CTWLSMIKE 11-10-2007, 12:49 PM There is always a discount on a bad carded car vs. a mint carded car but it depends on the car and the degree of damage. The greater the degree of damage, the larger the discount off average retail. However, if it's a high end item, typically the discount is smaller because it's still a high end item.

It's good to be honest when you see some flaws

FastC6Vette 11-11-2007, 02:04 AM Thanks for the info everyone. The car was sold on eBay and I told the person who bought it about the flaws, but I guess they did not like it once they saw the package in person. I refunded him the full amount of what he paid ($105) plus money to ship it back, so it will be going back up for sale once it is returned.
Drdealone, glad to see you like the Corvette as well!
79'Tranzamman 11-11-2007, 09:57 AM If you disclosed the flaws prior to him winning then what was his problem? Were the pictures good you had, even though you did tell him so that would have been that.

Yes, I knew that it was not mint, but did not expect the package to be in horrible condition. Look like it had been in the sun for a long time. Not really as described. Misunderstanding.
The pictures were not that great, and I asked about its condition and was told it was "excellent". Vette did a good job by taking it back, and I appreciate that.
It would be fine to open, but I'm a cardboard collector.
So if any of you would like to open it, you would be fine in buying it.
Thanks

it stated on the auction" The winning bidder will receive this mint in a near mint clamshell package which does show some light wear"

I should have described the flaws better in the auction and email. It was an honest mistake on my part and I took full responsibility for everything. I have sold tons of diecast and this is the first time I screwed up (as my feedback on here and eBay is great). I am embarassed, but the good thing is that this problem was resolved and everyone is happy.
