View Full Version : Holy Grail arrived today (Playart)
SMS88 11-09-2007, 11:45 AM I dont buy much on ebay but thanks to a tip off from a friend I was able to win this maroon/grey interior Fiat Dino which is the last remaining casting I need now in the correct colors that I saw as a child but didnt have the money to buy at the time back in 1974.(i am only missing one casting from childhood - a Spot -On VW Beetle).
I always regretted not buying this lovely motor at the time and although I searched on future visits to the same store it never did see another. Its been worth the 23 year wait - my christmas present for myself :woohoo:
Somebody in MN is breaking up one of the world“s most comprehensive Playart collections at the moment..... Alongside a couple of 1968 redlines this car is my diecast highlight of 2007 and I am very grateful to have it (the other 3 that came with it are nice too :) )

I am also focusing on Playarts at the moment - I really like your pink Rolls - pink is not a common color, one of the rarest on Playarts alongside solid gray and metallic pink and all spectraflame shades
I added 5 more Playarts this week - the Opel Senator casting is VHTF in any color ,and the metallic pink of the Mangusta is an early issue with the first type of wheels with spoked hubcaps. The 2nd type of circular patterned hubcaps were a copy of the Schuco design. Here are all my additions for this week, they cost me all up nearly $180 but I am happy with the value for money :(

isogrifo 07-31-2008, 08:03 PM Hi everyone. Great Playart pic, pink Rolls-Royce makes me drool... Here's a question about Playart 7116 : is this number applying to a Ford Mustang convertible (with folded top) OR to a Ford Mustang Hardtop (with unfolded black top) ??? We have those 2 castings here. Thanks in advance to experts.

The answer is both top up and top folded are the same casting and carry the same box & blister number. The top folded down version replaced the top up in the range in 1973 or 1974 just after the switch from petal pattern hubcaps to Schuco pattern hubcaps, and before the introduction of one peice safety wheels.
Here are my hubcap issues, excluding 6 beaters which dont deserve a place here....

No1toyguy 08-05-2008, 02:22 PM Wow, somebody really did get rid of a great lot of Playarts on Ebay. I checked out the winning bids and some nice one's I would have loved didn't even get bids! Serves me right for going on vacation! - Mark

These 6 just arrived from Volksdragon on saturday, and here is a shot of my updated rainbow.I lost the auctions for the cream and dark blue cars he had, and didnt bother bidding on the multitude of red and green cars which just have different coloured seats when compared to my existing collection.Playart possibly issued each colour with white, cream, grey, blue or black seats -aside from the 2 caramel colour cars being the same body colour the others are all different shades.i am very pleased to have so many examples of my favourite toycar - aside from common colours lemon and lemonlime its all the hard to find colours that I need to complete the bow-lavender,purple,pink, grey, cream, metallic blue and white

I only have about 55 hubcap Playarts, so if you :wave:have 300 then please do share images of them.I would love to see any cars you have unusual/htf colours like pink, grey, lilac, purple, white and the final hubcap wave 7136-7147 which were only produced for a few months with hubcaps. Then there are the early chrome baseplate issues -I am still not 100% sure about the whether certain castings were originally issued with chrome baseplates initially
rioredgt 10-14-2008, 06:44 AM Anybody got a DeTomaso Mangusta for sale? LMK

drumz 10-24-2008, 07:18 PM I collect diecast. A little of everything including PlayArt. I found these at a local Flea Market, :thumbsup:and they didn't cost a arm and a leg:woohoo:. I'm not sure of the year they were produced. Any help ?
thanks
slythorne 10-24-2008, 07:53 PM I am no expert, but I do know that is the later style wheels... I think early to mid 80s. (still 20 years old!)

These petal wheels are the first type of wheels fitted to the Routemaster and were used on all cars from 1974 onwards. Most playart Routemasters found today have 5 spoke wheels which were introduced c1980 so I date these as earlier mid to late 1970s

SMS88, thanks for your help. I found one back in the summer, and the other a month ago from the same dealer, for $5 a piece.

This is a very nice casting, better than the new Matchbox casting, and it is a carefully scaled down version of the 1/72 Corgi 468 Routemaster
In England this is the only common blistered Playart,as unsold 1980s London souvenir shop stock still turns up at toy sales and on ebay, always with 5 spoke wheels, not the earlier 5 fatter 5 petal wheels in the photo above, generally £1-£2 each ($1.60-$3.50)
vwtoysmike 02-16-2009, 01:01 PM How about 1:24 scale Playart?

Very nice:thumbsup: I have only heard about the 1/24 Opel GT before....little has survived for this millenium“s collectors to find and discuss, its a shame nobody in HongKong has written the inside story!
SMS88 05-06-2009, 05:07 PM Last weekend, I rearranged the best of my Playarts onto one shelf attempting to create the car lot look....
