This will be awesome gunn...Can't wait to see it fiished.

On another note I found another method of making flat tires on clunkers..Electric Clothes Iron!
Just set it on Med.High and after a couple minutes set your casting on it and pressto flat tires..All 4 at once to.

Very cool touch Lee, and awesome job making it a real junkyard heap to.

Anyone see these 1:87 buildings at Target, in those $1 bins when you enter the store?
I picked up 2 of each one..I have plans for them..Bwwwaaahhhaaaa.

Gunn,

I've tried to stop but I can't. The wrecks are too much fun!!! lol. Building an old school gas station was my original plan for my 1:18 diorama but I soon realized that wouldn't cut it for this kid. Plans got changed and now it's grown a little. What I'm up to is building an old school Cadillac dealership that's been closed for years but houses a modern rod shop inside. 6 hoists, 3 open electrical bays, detailing pit, paint booth, offices & run down showroom. Then out back a big junkyard full of 50-70 projects waiting to go into the shop. The shop itself will be full lit and the yard will have yard lights as well. I've got a good chunk of the paint booth built already and am building the segments of the table that will hold the diorama. It's gonna be big, have to build it in sections so it can be moved if necessary. The overall dimensions are going to be 12x6 ft. Thank god for unfinished basements. LMAO. Obsess much?

Actually, I do my tires in a frying pan! Lmao AN old non stick and a little Pam spray. Low heat, patience. I dunno about the small stuff but on 1:18 the only way to get the look right is to let the tire settle under its own weight, this makes it appear as if the tire lost air over a long period of time. You CAN do it with the wheels on the car but I don't recommend it. I'm not sure how the have the tires set up on the small stuff but on 1:18 the tire is seperate from rim, in alot of cases the rim needs to have part of the tire retaining shoulder ground off to allow the rim to sink right down to the ground. Some of these shoulders are 3/8" tall and won't allow a tire to sink anymore than a small amount. Trust me, alot of trial and error went into figuring this one out, it was probably one of the hardest parts of my wrecks. If you notice on my early stuff, nothing really has flat tires. Bugged me like crazy but I couldn't get it right forever and now, after all that work, I open my big mouth and just say "DO this" LMAO

Gunn,

Unless you want to look at bunch of unrestored cars in boxes, a pile of lumber (some cut some not) umm a framework for half of the building, part of a 1:18 clapboard fence and the disapproving look on the wife's face because of the mess I insist on creating - There isn't alot to see yet. LMAO

The past 6 monthes has been all about gathering stuff up to build it, Hoists & tooling /all the stuff I'm not making myself was easy but it seems like nothing else has been! I want this to be scary accurate, Gunn. I've gone as far as to find small steel tubing to make conduit for all the power wires, been building hoods for "halide lights" (aka cleverly hidden LEDS). I've located miniature "girders", made bulk oil tanks, found miniature steel "air line" to plumb around the shop, cut and shaped all the gratework for the floor drains, built workbenches, have all the glass cut for the showroom windows, built window frames. Sheesh, I haven't even really thought about all of this. lol. I know there's more but it's slippin past me right now.

There is one thing that has me stumped and to tell you the truth it's brought the WHOLE project to grinding halt because until I figure this out nothing can happen. (&^$%%$%^%$*^$$^#@^$#% stupid garage doors. That's right, doors. This is a big breaking point on this project. I want authentic looking 1:18 garage doors. You know the kind that each section folds individually as the door raises??? Until I have the eact dimensions of the the doors (I need 2) I can't finish framing in the building. If I could find someone who made them in scale or close to I'd buy them in a second. At least if they were ordered I would be able to get the dimensions for the framing.

Once I get that figured out it's wide open on this project. I'm going to build this diorama on a table like what the train guys do, in sections that join so it can be moved if need be. But in order for everything to be laid out properly I need the building framed in at minimum because, like in real life, the out buildings & yard itself have to all be set up in relation to the main building. I plan on having rutted muddy trails in between row upon row of cars. A little bit of everything so that no matter who you are you can walk up to it a go "Hey is that a _________ out there in the weeds?" LOL. Hopefully if all goes well I should have the majority of it done towards spring 08 but that might be more of a wish than a promise. LMAO. Any help with the door situation would be GREATLY appreciated. I'll post pics and stuff once something actually starts to take shape and yeah it's 12x6. lol. I woulda gone for 16 but I think I pushed my luck with 6. lol
