Hi have a 4p Tecumseh motor it starts and runs ( rototiller) and notice that when I engage the auger it wants to to stall out if, I engage slowly after warmed up, but if not it stalls out, it is like when the engine is suddenly put under load, but when easily put under load it works most of th time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

(taken carb apart cleaned bowl jets?? oil change new spark plug ???) you might wanna try that it might jsut be that . . tuning it up will add sum lost power
does the rototiller have any grease serts? maybe a good lube will help ??

Sounds like the governor is not working properly.

I agree with last post. I just had a problem with a governor and with the help of this forum it was solved. The governor causes the carb to open up when under load and maintain a certain rpm. You might try adjusting the governor.

It's possible that the governor is out of adjustment, but they seldom go out of adjustment on their own. If you have had the carburetor off, or messed with the governor then this may be the problem.

I would tend to think that the problem lies in your carburetor however. If there is any restriction in the low speed or high speed circuit of your carburetor or if it simply needs to be adjusted, it could cause the problem you describe. If your mixture if too lean it will cause the engine to bog and or stall when any load is applied, as the engine warms to operating temperature this will help lessen the problem somewhat. Old fuel will also deliver similar symptoms, so if your fuel is more then 8 weeks old or so, I would try some fresh fuel.

Best of Luck ...

As you engage the transmission, the governor is snapping the throttle full open before settling down. The carb has to rely on both low and high speed circuits to make the transition. If one is blocked, leaking or out of adjustment, a hesitation will result and if it can't overcome the load, it kills the engine. The reason you can keep it running when you engage slowly is that you soften the transition from low to high speed circuits.

By all means be sure you have fresh gas before you start tweaking tough.

I'd start with a good carb cleaning. Make sure all passages are clear. Some carbs have high and low speed mixture adjustments and can be a real pain to balance. I generally have better luck adjusting the high speed first, then the idle mixture. After initial adjustments, go back and fine tune.
