View Full Version : Cool 57 Chevy set find
Joe Falco 11-06-2007, 10:03 AM I wasn't looking for these, but somehow they found me. I was researching a question, cruising Ebay for a picture, when I stumbled on this ERTL 1/18th 57 Chevy set. Never heard of these, no idea if they were hobby store or other outlet limited, I know nothing. Except that they are way cool!!

Yep, a large scale junkyard and resto custom set! The junker is all dirty, missing chrome, has a bent rearview mirrer--even a wobbly left front wheel. I didn't remove them from the bases, but the undercarriage is just as dirty.

The Custom sports a new grille, paint, seat cover, dice, wheels, lake pipes, etc.

There is a certificate with them. Oddly, no plastic acrylic covers for them. I'll have to get some from Michael's or Hobby Lobby.

The doors open, but I didn't get any pics. I really dig these--ERTL did a nice job on both, especially the junker!!

(sorry for the less than perfect pics--I had to do these on my kitchen counter without a tripod--and I'm not real steady with close pics, LOL)

budsvtec 11-06-2007, 11:12 AM Pics look good and so do the 57's
nascar4al 11-06-2007, 01:41 PM Nice find. I like them.
STUTZ 11-06-2007, 06:56 PM I have 4 or so of the 1/18 scale ERTL '57 Chevy convertibles, but I don't have either of the two that you have pictured. I also have several of the 1/18 scale ERTL '57 Chevy hardtops. My two favorites are the Limited Edition black'57 Chevy hardtop with continental kit and skirts and the '57 Chevy hardtop with fuzzy dice and drive-in tray with hamburger, fries and cup of COKE.
Joe Falco 11-06-2007, 07:41 PM Stutz, the one with the drive in tray is one of my favorites as well--it's here on my computer desk at all times.
Joe
STUTZ 11-06-2007, 07:53 PM Most of my 1/18 scale cars are packed away in boxes Joe. I haven't seen the one with the drive-in tray in years.
If you get a chance, take a pic of it and post it.
Thanks, STUTZ

Thanks Joe.
I'm sure some BWF collectors would like to have this model.
STUTZ 11-06-2007, 08:39 PM I'm guessing this BWF '57 Chevy is about 15 years old Joe.
How old do you think this model is?
Joe Falco 11-06-2007, 08:45 PM No idea. I know I've had it for a while now.

JasonZ 11-06-2007, 08:47 PM thats sweet!

Back when I still collected big scale, this set was my 1:18 scale holy grail!
If you don't mind Joe, What'd you drop to get them?
Joe Falco 11-07-2007, 09:59 AM SS--36.00 for the cars, 12.00 shipping. The shipping actually came out a little more, but the seller ate it.

Sweet, that's a smoking deal without question.
Dadvball 11-07-2007, 11:05 PM That's an awesome set Joe. Nice BWF with the tray too. Reminded me of when my parents used to take us to the A&W Rootbeer drive-in restaurant. Only we did it in a Ford Country Squire.
32lowboy 11-08-2007, 09:50 PM Man Ive got this set in storage someplace. Im thinking I bought it sometime in the late 90s, 97 or so. The main reason I bought it was the weathered or "pre restored" version. they did another set like this too, a Mustang I think.
Good find!
Stangfreak 11-08-2007, 11:46 PM Those are great looking 1/18s... Especially displayed together... Congrats on the finds Joe !!!
jayz606 11-10-2007, 10:47 AM It was these cars that influenced me to do the rusters that I do. I hadn't even considered the idea until the fateful day that I came across a member of the restored series. It was the Ford Torino that Ertl did, Diamond in the Rough series. I bought it and it is a nice model but it didn't take the unrestored look as far as I liked. After a little studying of that model I set out to make my own. I owe alot to these cars, easily my favorite Ertl ever built
