View Full Version : Rosewood Raceway - Goldsboro, NC
Jim Rufiange 11-04-2007, 09:50 AM Rosewood Raceway (Goldsboro, NC) plans to start holding Oval races every other weekend starting 11/3/07. Classes have not be set yet as it will be determined by what people want to run. The way it looks now, there will be at least a 1/12th scale with brushed motor/4 cells, 1/10th scale brushless/4cell and legend cars.
This is super nice facility with new carpet layed 2 weeks ago. If you are in central or eastern NC, now is the opportunity to run some OVAL
Hope to see a good turn out
Paul
Thought this should be moved to this thread.
Jim Rufiange 11-04-2007, 09:55 AM First day of oval racing went off without a hitch. Thanks to Glenn for providing an oval track for the racers in Eastern NC. Tons of grip and plenty of room to race. Looking at lap times, the track is very close to Snowbirds in shape and runline.
Classes for the next time appear to be the following:
1/12 Stock, 4200/4600, 5 minutes
1/10 13.5, BRL motor rules, 4200/4600, 4 minutes
Mini Coopers
Next race - Sat, Nov 17. Doors open 9am, first heat at 2pm.
ovalguy1 11-05-2007, 06:30 PM are they gonna run 10.5.
Ritchie Mac
Jim Rufiange 11-05-2007, 11:09 PM If they have enough for a class. I would rather run that if you and whoever want to run it.
oval racer 2 11-06-2007, 11:05 AM I Would Love To Run 10.5/4300 4 Cell, 13.5 Was A Little To Slow For Me Personally, Just Dont Want To Start Splitting The Class Too Soon, If You Know What I Mean.

latemodel100 11-06-2007, 11:20 AM I remember the Off Road Indoor track and wished they would lay some carpet down at that time, guess now it gives me one more reason to come back and visit........

Jim Rufiange 11-11-2007, 11:41 PM Any firm info on what classes will be offered this week? I know there are a bunch of 1/12 stock racers, not sure about everyone else.
Tarheel 11-27-2007, 03:00 PM Looks like 1/12 and 1/10 stock, 13.5 brl, legends, Coopers and anything else that shows up. Come on out. Open at 9am racing at 2pm.

skeeter 11-28-2007, 07:27 PM I plan on running 13.5 if my new car shows up n time! If not I'll try and set-up my older one.
tw78911sc 11-28-2007, 09:57 PM Do I need to bring table/chair etc.. or is there a pit area? I'll run either 1/10 stock or 13.5 BL.
Tom
no there is plenty of pit benches and stools.
sedanracer8 11-28-2007, 10:25 PM ill be there to run something. either a borrowed ride. the new cooper im getting or possibly a new 1/12th dunno yet but ill be there to do something haha if nothing else call the races for ron : :dude:
tuftiger 11-29-2007, 09:37 AM Chris 1/12 and 1/10 (13.5)
Tornado_Racing 11-29-2007, 07:27 PM Does anyone have an address so I can MapQuest directions?
Jack, Flipper, and myself would like to come and test some Touring Oval. Would you let us 3 race?
Do we need extension cords, power strips, pit lights, etc?

3 Cars makes a class so you guys can run.
Plenty of pits, stools and power, come on down and race.
George

You may need a pit light. Are you planning to bring your Corally Assasian?
I have been telling all the TC guy that a touring would run on an oval
Paul
Flipper13 11-30-2007, 12:21 PM paul 2 maybe 3 assissin will be there to test and race flipper

You may want to bring an extra power strip as some of the receptacles don't work. It looks like we are going to have a good turnout this weekend.
Hopefully I can get my 1/12 scale working, I worked over 6 hrs on it last race and could not get it to go around the track. Turns out it had a defective T-plate, you can bend it with you fingers. My Pro 3 (with Tony's TRD setup) won the last 13.5 race, I was letting James Stroud drive it until he gets his CW Aggressor.
Are you guys warming up for the Birds?
Paul
sedanracer8 12-02-2007, 06:50 AM lets go guys get some post on here, get some interest going. 24 cars was a good turnout but we need to keep that going :)
sedanracer8 12-03-2007, 02:29 PM where is everyone at least im bumping it up
We had 8 in 1/12th. Hope we keep it up. See everyone at the next race!!
Jesse Bean 12-04-2007, 12:00 AM is there a website? what's the race day schedule? time of first qual and openning time?
sedanracer8 12-04-2007, 12:14 AM glennshobbycorner.com i think
opens at 9 am racing at 2 pm

John there are additional racers from the Alley and Barn that would run 1/12 but for a Nitro racer with very little electric experience getting started running brushed motors is intimidating to them. The transition to brushless would be easier for them
I personally would rather run brushless. I am probably going to buy a 17.5 to test in my backup 1/12 to see if the speeds are equal to a brushed engine
Paul
I am not against running brushless in 1/12th. Actually I would love to run it...especially the 13.5.
The only reason I made that one comment to Brian on the other forum is that we all have to agree and all have to run the same thing. I don't think mixing brushed and brushless would work very well and I definately don't want to lose any of the guys we already have.
If everyone who is already running agrees then let's do it.
Jesse Bean 12-04-2007, 09:41 AM thanks for the info! at maximus this past weekend they had a 17.5 class in their invitation only race and the fastest cars were going about a half lap faster than their record in stock. food for the thought!
tuftiger 12-04-2007, 10:09 AM I agree we don't want to lose any racers. We will just see how things pan out. Like you I am open to any suggestions especially if it means less maintenance on the motors and will let the class grow.
I have to order another brushless speed control so we may test the 13.5 in our backup car, it should be a rocket.
Agreed. I know Brian wants to run it and I bet Laurie and George will most likely as well. Not sure of anyone else though.
I will probably take that darkside from ya, Bring it to the next oval race. As long as money problems don't arise from now to then. I am gonna set it up as a 2nd car and let my son race it when he can come.
I won't be able to make it to the on-road race this weekend. See ya on the 15th.

I will bring the car on the 15th. Two of the new guys (Gerry and Jeff) have also expressed interest in running Brushless. I will try to do some testing on the 15th
Paul
I suppose that just leaves Paul Mashburn. I will try and find out from him his thoughts on it, I don't think he isn't going to make it back to the track until after New Years.

I spoke with Jim Rufiange (currently run 1/10) he mentioned that he was going to test a 1/12 with a 13.5 motor. I really think the interest is there, we just don't want to leave anyone out in the cold. working on brushed motors is not my favorite thing, I would rather spend the time on chassis setup.
Paul
Tarheel 12-04-2007, 02:44 PM I think a 13.5 in 1/12 might be a rocket. A 17.5 would probably be closer to stock. I know i don't run 1/12, but have read alot about 1/12th and might get one. just food for thought. You guys can make whatever class you want.
Glenn
Glenn, it's probably not gonna be too fast. I would say maybe like 19 turn brushed. I personally thought that stock was a little slow this past week....lol. Maybe it was cause I wasn't turning right....also I had my car setup so I didn't have to lift.
I know most guys already have a 13.5 so having to to run 17.5 we would all have to buy another motor...
Jesse Bean 12-04-2007, 04:24 PM do you guys have regular spec class? some guys from thunder road still have their spec stuff and were interested in coming down.
Well, we basically were a touring track unitl this past month or so. We have only had 2-3 oval races now and there have not been a spec class.
This past Sat we had:
1/12 stock - brushed - 4 cell
1/10th 13.5 brushless - 4 cell
Legends
Tamiya Mini Coopers.
If they come I am sure they will NOT be turned away.....
sedanracer8 12-04-2007, 06:48 PM i have some vacation time coming up i wont be at the next oval race i will be out of town. i am going to put the 13.5 in mine and ill do some testing on it. im with john i think the stock was a bit slow to me. i too held it wide open most of the race. id rather make it where u had to lift in the corners, and like john said that would put most of us having to buy more motors. paul i havent tested it yet but i think that lipo cutoff was what was causing the speedo to kickout. i gotta figure out how to get it off now so i can test the 13.5. i want to run brushless but i also dont want to run anyone off or make it where people from out of town cant compete if the decide to come.
I'm all for Brushless in 1/12 scale, but would prefer the 17.5 but will run the 13.5 if that is what everyone wants to do.
I think the 17.5 would be better, the 1/12 with 13.5 is going to be very quick and there are some people having trouble getting a handle on stock speed as it is. I would much rather race than try and put on some kind of freak speed show. Also with the 13.5 the 1/12's may verywell need a wing.
George
sedanracer8 12-04-2007, 07:21 PM wings are for touring cars spoilers are for ovals haha
freak speed show?? come on...they are not going to be that fast.
There going to be faster than the 1/10 13.5, which already has had some 3.9/4.0 sec laps.
george
This is like I said on the other forum. Unless everyone agrees it is just gonna kill the class.
From my viewpoint I want to do whatever it is with the least amount of cost involved for everyone....why change to somethign no one is even running or has??
I say brushed or 13.5 since that would be the easiest for everyone.....just my opinion. I will run something no matter what is decided. Maybe I will just try and see if I like 1/10th.
sedanracer8 12-04-2007, 08:55 PM i like the 1/12th but i will end up running 1/10 th as well eventually just for the sake of running brushless. like i said i wanna just do it in the 12th but need to do whats best for the class, considering who might be coming in from outside. hopefully that will happen it never did with touring. i will test it next time im there either on a non race day or on a race day just to see but like i said i think there is nothing wrong with the 13.5 in 1/12th ya its going to be fast but no one ever said that 1/10th had to be the fastest class. and i dont think its going to be out of control speed. i think racing will still be possible. rumor had it that the track was going to be lengthened 8 feet. if thats true remember thats going to make stock/17.5 seem even slower.
axrayed1 12-04-2007, 09:40 PM You know I think you'll should look at what the most people have and I think about everybody has a 13.5 but there is only like two that has the 17.5 so everybody will have to go out and buy another motor if you do the 17.5.
If you'll all remember George ran his 17.5 at durham and wasn't that much slower so just run the 13.5 and see what it will do.
BUT WHAT DO I KNOW.
that is all I was trying to say too. We need to make sure everyone is ok with the switch before we do it too.
J-Dub Racing 12-05-2007, 02:18 AM The thing to look at when running brushless and 12th scale is gearing. 13.5 and 17.5 run really tall gears, so that may factor in to what you guys may want to run. Just an outsiders opinion.
Thanks
