Man, did this thing sneek in under the radar or what!
With a release date of 1-18-08 I can't believe there hasn't been more hype than this.
Apparently, if this really is a Godzilla story, its told from the viewpoint of a few people trying to survive a 'monster' attack of New York.
I like this 'micro' viewpoint of a Godzilla attack, of this movie where, like in the latest WOTW movie, you have no idea whats going one at the governmental level.
Its just you and a few people you happen to find yourselves with, trying to survive a devastating Godzilla/terrorist style attack.
Could be very cool, and a precurser as to what he might do with Trek.

I think you're refering to Cloverfield. Just to clarify, the monster is not Godzilla, and Abrams didn't direct (he produced and co-wrote).

Is CLOVERFIELD the official title? I had read that it was a dummy one and the real title would be revealed in a trailer accompanying BEOWULF.

I believe it has been officially announced that neither Cloverfield nor Monstrous (which appeared atop one of the teaser posters) is the title of the movie -- as noted, the actual title will be revealed later.
And it ain't Voltron, either.

On Imdb.com its still referred to as something like 'untitled J.J. Abrams project', which is very rare for a film so close to release.
If it was infact 'Cloverfield' then it would likely be listed as such by this time.
The referrence to 'Japan' in the trailer is interesting.
And I wonder how willing the public is to accept a giant monster that is not Godzilla.
It would be nice to see all the wrongs of the previous New York Godzilla film be corrected.
BTW: Carson. What house are you with?

I think the initial excitement from the trailer in front of Transformers died down when no new info came out over the last 3 or 4 months ...
I guess the "Lost" fans (who are used to glacial pacing) are still excited?

I'm still excited. The problem is all the crap that is on Youtube, with every one who is no one commenting that "they" have proof of this and proof of that.
I am looking forward to learing more about the movie and seeing it when it lands in theaters. Maybe. ;)

Description of the trailer can be found at http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=12367 - although I'm not sure of it's reliability since it may not be a finished trailer that CHUD is reviewing. It has SPOILERS (for the trailer - not necessarily the movie).
According to this report, the final title on the trailer is "Cloverfield." (talk about hiding in plain sight)

I hear on the Internets it's about an escapee from a giant ant farm.
