View Full Version : New Oval Track
tuftiger 10-29-2007, 05:11 PM Rosewood Raceway (Goldsboro, NC) plans to start holding Oval races every other weekend starting 11/3/07. Classes have not be set yet as it will be determined by what people want to run. The way it looks now, there will be at least a 1/12th scale with brushed motor/4 cells, 1/10th scale brushless/4cell and legend cars.
This is super nice facility with new carpet layed 2 weeks ago. If you are in central or eastern NC, now is the opportunity to run some OVAL
Hope to see a good turn out

Any pictures??
garacer08 10-29-2007, 09:43 PM Is this the Goldsboro thats close to Cherokee NC? If so I will have to come up for some carpet racing if they get a brushless/lipo class going.
The plan is to alternate from oval to touring every other weekend. Carpet is 100x44.
I don't think the oval has actually been layed down yet. We ran touring this past Sat. Track website is at www.glennshobbycorner.com
Jim Rufiange 10-30-2007, 09:37 AM Great news! What brushless motors will you be running?

My guess is that it will be the 13.5 but not sure.

What classes will run at the new oval? Is this the same Goldsboro thats just south of Cherokee,NC? I would like to come check this place out if it is.
Larry B 10-30-2007, 11:25 PM I think the track is east of I-95 on Rt 70. No way close to Cherokee, NC.
Jim Rufiange 11-01-2007, 12:56 PM Billy,
What up?! I may talk about racing but until I actually appear at the track, don't get too excited.
Paul,
What time do doors open and what time does racing start Sat?
The track opens for practice at 9am. The on-road racing always has started at 2pm, so I am assuming it will be the same for the oval.
tuftiger 11-02-2007, 03:15 PM Great news! What brushless motors will you be running?
The classes have not be set yet. The owner is willing to run any class with enough people.
Right now it appears that there will be a 1/12 scale class C027 motor with 4 cells and hopefully a 1/10th scale class with a 13.5 brushless and 4 cells. I am prepared for both. This a super nice facility with new carpet and It has excellent pit places.
The only problem is that the Touring guy don't want to give up every other weekend of racing. They are trying to make things hard on us oval guy, but the owner is 100% behind the oval program.
Paul
Actually, it is only one or two touring guys complaining.
ovalguy1 11-06-2007, 10:17 PM Hey tuftiger r u Paul Mashburn.....?
Ritchie Mac
No it is not Paul Mashburn. Paul Mashburn is racing both touring and oval at Rosewood though.
ovalguy1 11-08-2007, 07:07 PM I have been hearing that some guys want to run lipo's and all that wierd stuff. Why not just stick to the BRL rules for now. Have a 13.5 and a 10.5 class. Just got back in from the BRL race in MI and had a blast. One thang that people are seeing are that old packs are running just as good as new stuff. My sticks didn't come in so I had to run packs from the snow birds from last year. I was less than 2 secs behind the TQ.
It's not to bad when you are behind cyrul,Honeycutt,Franky, and Sean Cochran. We all turned 66 laps. Brushless racing has helped the sport I think but we just can't have all these old ball classes. If im from out of town how am I going to race here if they don't have a set of rules. Someone needs to step up and make a decsion on what to run. I think lipo's are going to hurt you. Just my two cents in the matter.

Ovalguy1 it's nice to hear your thoughts on the subject of classes. I myself like the BRL rules, but would like to see some lipo allowed. Perhaps allowing the 17.5 with the Orion 3200 lipo run in the 10.5/4cell class and the new 21.5 with the Orion 3200 lipo to run in 13.5/4cell class. I have read on the forums (SWTour) that the 17.5 with the 3200 lipo runs almost identical lap times as the 10.5/19t/4cell class.
What are you thoughts on this idea? Hope to see you at Rosewood soon!

McLin 11-10-2007, 12:12 AM With the situation with tracks in my area here in VA it looks like Rosewood my be the closest track to me. If you guys do allow LiPo's I would be interested in running some brushless with you. I'm too old to play the battery game anymore. LOL
17.5/LiPo should run good with 10.5/4 cell.
David B. 11-11-2007, 06:57 PM I think the track is east of I-95 on Rt 70. No way close to Cherokee, NC.
True, Cherokee is almost in Tennessee (extreme Western NC on the edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park). Goldsboro is about an hour EAST of Raleigh, and is East of I-95. Much closer to the Atlantic Ocean than to the mountains.

R Jewett 11-12-2007, 12:45 PM Ritchie, I know the 1/12 class will be big running stock with 4200's or 4600's. I would think that the 13.5 class will be big with alot of guys already having these motor kicking around from their touring cars. If enough show you might get a 10.5 class together too.
I won't be running 1/10 but I would vote to keep lipos out of it. I would say if they get enough to let them have their own class.
Either way I'll be down this weekend to run 1/12 stock.
