As a yoot, I almost went to work for Nudie of Hollywood - who made all of Porter's star-spangled suits.

I was never a big C&W fan, myself -BUT- as a teenager, even I would tune in his program once in a while.... for a glimpse at Dolly Parton! And that was before she became streamlined!

Nudie Cohn-"Nudie's Rodeo Tailors" on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. When he retired, he sold the shop to his protege, Manuel. He closed the shop and moved to Nashville. But, he ocasionally makes a custom piece of clothing for King's Western Wear in Studio City.

He was a good part of my childhood. I loved his show, and his outfits. We loss one of the true country stars!

Correct. I was 19 years old at the time and traveling around the country with my best friend from high school. Nudie offered both of us jobs as a stock clerks but we turned him down. Funny thing is, neither of us really knew who he was at the time, although he was certainly a memorable character. It was only years later that I discovered he had made stage outfits for everyone from Elvis to The Flying Burrito Brothers to ZZ Top.

I have an old 1950's record with a write up on the back cover about Porter traveling and playing at high schools. It mentioned him stopping at my Dad's high school (Half Way) in Missouri to play around the time my dad was attending there.
