I have rebuilt a carb for a techumseh 5hp for a craftsman snow blower. I have gotten it to run but my throttle only runs at 1 speed no matter what the setting. I am not sure I set up the carb right I just tinkered with the 3 adjustments ( bowl, needle valve on side and stop for throttle) until I was able to get it to run. Any suggestions on how to get my throttle to adjust correctly would be appreciated. There is also an adjusment on the throttle itself but I did not tinker with that. My thought there was it worked before I rebuilt the carb so it should be ok. Also I replaced welch plug and the one on the side keeps falling out. What is the correct way to seat that? I figured i would ask before I beat on it LOL :) Thanks in advance for the help.

Perhaps you have the idle adjustment screw in too far. If the Idle speed is set above the top governed speed then you will not notice any change in engine speed when the control is moved.

Tap on the welch plug with a flat punch to flatten it out some. This will expand the plug and keep it seated in the carburetor. Be sure to place it in the carburetor BEFORE you tap on it, otherwise it will no longer fit into the area where it belongs.

Tip: you can paint around the outer edge of the welch plug with fingernail polish to make sure you have a good seal on the plug.
