ok heres something i have been wondering about since i got back into r/c raceing years ago and never looked into. i work at a bodyshop, and we have one of those big buck resistance spot welders. has anyone ever built a battery with one ? its adjustable on voltage and the pressure it squeezes at, so i was wondering if ya turn the power down and turn down the pressure of the 2 arms that sqeeze it, maybe it would work, then youd never have to worry about solder comming loose !! i know i have had packs over the years that kinda looked like they were welded.

Many "stick" packs are built that way.

thats kinda what i thought, but probably not done by humans !! i guess just turn the welder down on the lowest setting, wear a good face/chest shield and try it ?? maybe ill get some older packs, take em apart, clean the solder and try those first !!!

Are you talking about an industrial Spot welder ? I am a Pro Welder there are so many types of welders and they do so many diffrent types of metal. There ones for steel, aliminium, tin, copper, nickle and stainless steel all of these have many settings but nine have one low enough to not burn the inside of the batteries. The process of welding in short is heating a peice of metal to its most maliable point before the point of melting totally. The premisse of a Spot welder is that it welds with Pressure and A process called luminus welding meeaning the heat goes almost thru everythng touching those tips. and the heat is extremely HOT So in my oppinion if the welder is not a hand welder that is also an industrial welder made for welding batteries well Stick to hand welding with 40 watt stick welders since the time you raced last the technology has gotten Incredibly Better . Good luck and if you do do the battery with the welding machine if it comes out good let me know the type of welder, voltage , heat . and amount of time for welding it . Thanks .

its a dual pinch type, for welding on car quater panels, rear body panels, ect, just like the foctory does.
