I'm currently in the process of designing a new track. I currently have a dirt track that will be replaced by red clay. In the spring I'm getting 60 yards brought in and should have it done as soon as the weather allows. This track will accomidate 1/8 scalers with 10 ft. wide lanes. Just looking for anyone with interest to race. I know there are several other people with same type of tracks and would be interested in rotating tracks. Each person do three races or so and possibly pig roast. bonfire party. Mix it up a little. Create a small series. My track should roughly be 125"x70" with several jumps, woop section, tabletop, rumble stretch, and possibly a few elevation changes. Still finalizing plans. Just looking to get to keep the hobby going in a fun way. Let me know what you think!

60 yards isn't enough to put a good base down.I have over 160 yards and need at least another 100 yards+.

Really? I used a cubic yard calculator with 3" base and it told me 55 yards. Now I know I'll need more for jumps and what not but I have a lot of dirt already that I will use for the bases. How big is your track?

Our indoor Track is 60x90 and has a 10" base. The outdoor track is 185x125 and has a 12" base. As the cars run on it they will ware away the base. I would recommend no less than a 6" base.... Just my 2 cents.... good luck with your venture.

If you do ZERO maintianance you might wear thru a 3" base, maybe. You are talking RED CLAY, big difference there from other types of clay. You should not need more than 70 yards. All though more is always better in this case. The only problem with clay tracks is the weather, rain that is! Just my 2 cents!

Yeah I know there will be some maintence, but you know that's part of the fun. As far as the rain just try and grade as best as possible. What kind of clay are you using? The only reason I'm thinking about red clay is my neighbor runs a gravel pit 1 mile down the road. Will it work good? Never raced in red clay. We will be out to your place for sure next year. My buddy and I both run GT2's. Ran at BFG for a few weeks but didn't see a lot of 1/10 nitro. Was toward the end of the season. Thanks for the tips.

You missed out on the pay back race, we had 18 nitro stadium trucks. It was awesome!

I am in the process of having 60 yards of the red stuff deliverd this week! I can't wait! It is a little hard to work with but red clay stays where you put it. There will be very little maintainance if you get it down thick enough in the right spots. Some places you might need more than 3" but not many and you can always put more down.

I don't know what you are paying for it but they are not giving it away over here!
I figure I will have $1000 plus in to my off road track for the 2008 season, that is hard to swallow comming up on the holidays and all.

We would love to have you guys over for a race sometime, it will be tuff for you to get away if you have a track, time just screams by, you'll see.

Duke

P.S. You will love the red clay!

Oh we will make it over! This track will be for practice and a little racing as I don't have a scoring system yet. Looking for options. Is that 1000.00 include all the tubing and equipment rental? The guy I'm getting the clay from is charging me 5.00 per yard and no delivery because he's so close. I'll also have about 800.00 into it. Gonna rent a bobcat to make the work easier. Thanks and talk to you soon.

Mine is $10 a yard delivered. I'm hoping the clay, piping and walls type stuff for a grand or so, I hope!

Hey Duke where are you purchasing all of your tubing and for how much? Hoping to get it cheaper than the local box stores. Any races out there yet this year? Seems that BFG is all done, or at least I think. Don't see any postings other than indoor. Thanks Scott

John at BFG has the yellow flex stuff. He said he got it for $.50 a ft.,that is a good deal! I will be using a combination of that and pvc on mine.

I purchased the tubing at VanLann construction supply on 68th street in Dutton. It is $55 for a 150 ft roll. About $.30 a foot.

The weather has pretty much done us in as to outdoor racing at BFG. Track is just starting to dry out if we don't get anymore significant rain.

Thanks John I remember you telling me now, couldn't think of the name. I think I'm gonna come out on Sunday and just practice and watch some indoor action. Andy might come as well. A little rain tonight but nothing major. If it does get too bad let me know ahead of time. Have a little gas left to burn.

Thanks Scott

Was wondering if anyone had a AMB sytem to lend out a couple times per summer. I'm looking to have a couple big races during the summer including a BBQ and bon fire party afterwards. Don't really want to invest the money into one unless it really takesoff. If anyone has any suggestions I'm here to listen. Thanks Scott

Well construction has begun on the track. Not able to go with the clay because the excavator said his truck would get stuck in my yard and I'm not willing to pay to haul 60 - 80 yards of clay 250 ft to the site. Oh well, the elevation change, table top, and triple have been started. Used a bobcat to do the majority of the work and then a quad to smoooooooth it out. Starting to look great. Base is a hard packed dirt that holds very well. Anybody interested in practicing just let me know. Should end up around 110'x70'
Hope to have it all done in a week or two. Picking up all the tubing on Friday so all I have to do is the woop section, quad, and a rumble section. This track will only hold "fun" racing and practice. Just looking to have a good time with it. So all you "Northerners" will have a place to play.:woohoo:

Just a update,

All I need to finish is the ramp on the elevation rise and put down the rest of the tubing. Looking sweet! Have a triple, 5 woops, tabletop, double, elevation rise, and a double single ^^ ^. The lanes are 10' apart. Trying to figure out what day to have a practice without interfering with other tracks. Was thinking Tuesday or Thursday. I will post pics when done. Have plenty of space and power. As long as mother nature behaves I should wrap it up this weekend. The surface is packed dirt with all the jumps covered in clay.
:woohoo: :woohoo:

Sweet...wanted to talk to you about some GT2 projects. Seen your stuff and I also make some things for the GT2. Thought we could possibly put our heads together and market this stuff. I should be out to Dukes next weekend. Plans this weekend. Scott

Well here is a pic of the new track layout. Still have a few things to finish up and change but it runs real well. Drove the 1/10 and 1/8 and suit both awesome. Don't worry about the water, I have a 2" trash pump to clear it out. It's been a real wet start otherwise it dries up. Driver stand is up. Let me know if you're interested to come out so we can figure out a good day during the week. I'm thinking Tuesday or Thursday. Have power near by would just need a extension cord. Hope to see some new faces!!
