The Sugar Bowl Speedyway lives again! Robert Hellard and Derrick Morris have got permission to reopen the Sugar Bowl for racing. We are trying to get a race set up for maybe Nov 10th. If we can get enough support we will start racing once or twice a month. First we have a lot of work to do around the track to get ready but would like some feed back from oval racers. If you like this idea and would like to come out and run please let me know here or e-mail me at garacer08@yahoo.com The track is still as smooth and fast as it use to be. We still have power there also. The grass needs cutting and some wall repaires need to be made but the track is still in GREAT shape.

Yes Buba Coker has been notified by Robert. We are going to start out with .12 and .09 nitro with brushless/lipo 17.5, and 1/4 scale. We want to keep it simple with the classes so we will have more racers in each class. If the attendance starts going up and some want to add a 13.5/lipo class some day we will. But for now it going to be Nitro and brushless/lipo 17.5 with the 1/4 scales. I would like to see 100+ racers at the track for Sat night racing like it use to be when I started racing there back in 1989. I know I am really dreaming wishful dreams but HEY I guess I can dream.

I am going to call Shelly and see if he has any pics of the Bowl that he can e-mail me. I had seen some last winter on a site but cant find them now. If I cant find any I will stop by and get some pics and send them to you. I only live 1/2 mile from the track but it will be Sunday before I can do so.

I would be more interested in seeing what the track looks like "now" as to when it was in its hayday.

I will do. I know the grass is high the fencing more than likely needs some paint. Some of the boards on the wall may need replacing, which Robert and I are going to take care of that. The track has been used some this past summer for practice from some of the locals that run else where. There is a hobby shop there but it will not be open. We will have a local with a parts trailer. The driver stand and scoring loop all in good shape and the SC loop still works great. They ran track issued transponders which are AMB but not sure if it works with the new personal ones or not. Some one may be able to chime in on that. I will try it out with mine when we cross that bridge.

Anyone with the oppurtunity to run on this track needs to DO IT Wonderful Track, smooth fast tight raceing and great people!

No houses yet. I think thats the only saving grace for this track. Its zoned commercial and the city of Sugar Hill will not allow it to be rezoned for a subdivison. It has been sold but we can still race there. Thats the reason everyone quit coming, they thought it had been bulldozed over when actually Jan and Shelly has been running off road races up til this past July. The oval has been there but no one would show up.

The Sugar Bowl didn't upgrade to the new system last I had heard so no personals. But you might want to talk to Bob Malphurs who had been running the computer for the roadcourse. They were supposedly set up to run personals.

Good luck with the new venue! It's been a rare thing to hear of a new Oval track whether it's brand new or new again.

Just promote the livin' daylights out of it.

Address is 5272 Nelson Brogdon Blvd., Sugar Hill, GA 30518. There is not a web address any more. We may get something going for the web, but not yet. Nelson Brogdon Blvd is also called HWY20 or Buford Dr for folks around here. If you are coming from I-85 get off of the Mall of GA exit then go west on Buford Dr towards Buford/SugarHill. You will go about 6-7 miles (15 lights or so) and you will see the entrance on the left. There's a big sign that reads SUGAR BOWL. If any one has questions or would like to e-mail me my address is garacer08@yahoo.com

Hi guys! I came across this thread yesterday, glad to hear that there's still some interest in oval racing.

Just got off the phone with Jan, she said you might need some help with lap counting this weekend. I'd be more than happy to help out and bring the on-roads AMB decoder and transponders. That way those with personal transponders (PT's) can use them.

Let me know here or you can get my phone # from Jan and call.

Best of luck!
