For a rough ballpark guesstimate on gearing - if the rollout for stock at a track was say 1.85 to 2.05, would a good 13.5 gearing be 2.85 to 3.05?

Dale 10-24-2007, 10:46 PM Those were the stock numbers at Marshalls and every one is running between 2.90 and 3.40 with 13.5. The Lrp speedo guys are running the 2.9s and the novak guys are 3.30 or so hope that helps. TOME57 10-28-2007, 08:13 AM So what size pinions and spurs do you guys keep on hand? Is there a common size spur gear? hobbyten 10-28-2007, 08:50 AM it seems like most of the locals in our area run either a 100 or a 96 spur. it makes it easier on pinion sizes with these sizes. for pinions it ranges from 35 to upper 40's. some of the drivers headed to detroit next weekend for the brl have dropped to a 88 tooth spur to run the 17.5 class. their expecting to be runnning higher rollouts down there. that track is quite a bit bigger than are regular track. planet honda 10-28-2007, 10:12 AM Those were the stock numbers at Marshalls and every one is running between 2.90 and 3.40 with 13.5. Do the speed controlls give you a differant power output? rickster58 10-31-2007, 12:43 PM I realize that there are a ton of opinions on this subject. At first we were hearing gear up until the motor gets to a certain temperature. (that won't work) The bottom line is go up a few teeth from stock and start experimenting. I know that when the lap times bottomed out as low as they would go, I was nowhere near the 160 degree maximum operating temp that some were saying to gear up to. The only definitive indicator of rollout are the lap times. And freeze spray will definately make a difference in the beginning of the run. It seems in most cases that the rollout of a 13.5 is going to be around 1 inch more than stock, but you may want to start at only .5 above stock to avoid any possible overheating. DR DAVE 11-01-2007, 05:46 PM good topic im very confused my car likes a 80 spur 34 pinion with timing maxed and an lrp going to play tomorrow and see if i can confuse myself more lol TOME57 11-01-2007, 06:57 PM What's the difference between the Novak 13.5 and LRP 13.5 and whatever else out there that is 13.5? hobbyten 11-01-2007, 09:33 PM What's the difference between the Novak 13.5 and LRP 13.5 and whatever else out there that is 13.5? maybe no difference but at this time most org. only allow the novak motor to try and keep the playing field equal so as not to have a motor of the week war. TOME57 11-04-2007, 09:10 AM maybe no difference but at this time most org. only allow the novak motor to try and keep the playing field equal so as not to have a motor of the week war. In my opinion this is BS. I like choices. swtour 11-04-2007, 09:16 PM TOME57 Excuse my narrow minded response, but you have choices. Race (under the rules set forth) Don't Race Create a group to run your OWN Rules Things have stayed the same way too long - and with the current changes, TIGHT control may not be the answer that fixes things...but uncontrolled, non-conforming products I gaurantee will not help. TOME57 11-04-2007, 10:44 PM As far as gearing, what motor temp or drop in lap times should I be looking for? I'm trying to get brushless going in my area and am using a Novak 13.5. I am up to about 6 teeth over stock. I went up two teeth at a time. The first two runs the motor temp was 70 degrees. The final run the temp was 95. All runs yielded pretty much flat even lap times from start to finish. What am I shooting for? swtour - point well taken. Where I am, interest is sparking but brushless is a grey area. The Novak and Mamba are used in modified with some interest in LRP. I think only Novak, LRP, and Orion have 13.5 motors. All though brushless has been around for a few years, we're at day 1. Fl Flash 11-05-2007, 07:45 PM There is no magic gearing formula or eqaution every time you think you have found the perfect gear you will find a little more in your chassis/tuning combination and then youll need to find a better gear. The best you can do is to constantly try differant combinations to find your Current Best set-up. Thats were the real Fun in racing is to me. TOME57 11-06-2007, 07:51 PM I am going to get some smaller spur gears and keep gearing up. I'll be keeping an eye on lap tims and motor temp. I'm running the motor plain - no freeze or motor cooler/wraps. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
