Anybody seen one of these before? The pickup system is similar to HP7, but I don't think HP7s get that narrow at the hinge end... and there's printing on the bottom that says "DO NOT USE ON 12V SYSTEM"...

My first thought was US1, but the US1 stuff I've come across was much heavier duty than this...
thanks in advance for any info..

What you got there is a Tyco "Hustler" which was produced for some Tyco HO battery operated sets around 1979-80 which I assumed used regular Tyco track. The cars were a glow Ferrari 512M and the Porsche 917. I don't know why they did those sets or what they consisted of. It is ironic that now we have Mattel (ex-Tyco) doing the same thing but at least giving us regular chassis that we can run on standard electric.

the motor is similar to what matchbox put on the 6v speedtrack cars. Pop in an hp-7 motor, shorten the pinion and that should work fine. With no magnatraction that should be a lot of fun.
The only thing that keeps it from using higher power is the motor brush setup, which is actually 2 small copper wires to the commutator. Even if you just swapped the nosecone of the motor to an hp-7 piece it would work. Ive done the same thing with those 6v matchbox slots myself and they run great.
