Blockbuster movies ??
Original programming???

I gotta add that if the past movies are any indication, the folks of "SciFi don't have very high standards. Also, nothing that the SciFi channel is original. All of their shows, movies and specials are a variation of something that has already been written or shown.

Puleeeeze, how original is stuff like Flash Gordon or Battlestar Galactica? Even their best effort, DUNE, is taken from another person's novel. Am I really out of touch with what is defined as "Original" or "Blockbuster" these days?

ECW isn't even in the same Genre as what "SciFi" is unless you consider growth hormoned-up'ed fake wrestlers and silicon-ed trophy women to be sci-fi.

Don't get me started down this road. I've written the Sci-Fi channel several times telling them how they are such idiots. They can't claim having a large audience for this show, only a big kick-back for airing it.

Chiller is a much better channel. SciFi let me down long ago. Very little to watch on that channel.

Wish my cable network carried it. TimeWarner is only carries the standard fare.

I have to say I don't SciFi as much as I used to in the early days, anything original or worthwhile is few and far between.

Sci-fi must consider a movie a blockbuster if the viewership is over 20 people. I have yet to get past the first 15 minutes of ANY movie I have seen that was made for the channel.

I only watch the channel now for SG- Atlantis and BSG. Sci-fi is on par with Foxnews as far as being worth watching.

Wrestlers and sci-fi. Sounds more like the comedy channel. Maybe they could put them in spacey costumes.

That's gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of any channel doing - something that has absolutely nothing to do with it's theme. Dumb, dumb Bonnie Hammer! No soup for you!

The modern definition of sci fi seems to include anything that is fiction. Pro Wrestling is definitely fiction. So, pro wrestling is science fiction just like TV series about serial killers are. I hope that the Sci Fi channel keeps up the good work in creating confusion as to what science fiction really is. But, if set my sarcasm aside, I guess there's not enough money in real Sci Fi.

I've found quite a few things on the Sci-Fi channel I like. Doctor Who is probably my favorite of all of them. I was surprised when they started carrying ECW. Is it science fiction? I don't know anyone who thinks it is.....

However.....

ECW lasts only one hour per week. Paid programming is usually scheduled for 3 hours from 5:00am-8:00am just about every day---about 21hrs. If ECW doesn't appeal to you, don't watch it. There are plenty of other things to watch on cable and satellite during that single hour a week.

Looking at their schedule this month, you'll find their "13 Days of Halloween" offerings for this month. Though most of the movies aren't considered classics, most are definitely entertaining.

I've enjoyed watching some of their mini-marathons of series such as "Doctor Who" (of course), "John Doe", "Kolchak", "Dead Like Me", "Twilight Zone", "Tales from the Darkside". and "X Files".

When it comes to original programming, who knows what their budget is for each one?

I'd venture to say it's a lot lower than your typical theatrical release. That's why we get movies like "Mansquito", "Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers", "Species III", "Painkiller Jane", and "Alien Hunter".

Their original series include "Battlestar Galactica", "Flash Gordon", "Painkiller Jane", etc.

Can they be all things to all people? Of course not....but I don't think they're doing a bad job of it. "Doctor Who" is one of my favorite series. I wouldn't have enjoyed watching the past 3 seasons without the Sci-Fi Channel. (I can't justify paying $$$ for the over-priced DVD sets.)

I actually like SciFi, too. They've got a lot of shows you can't see anywhere else anymore, tho a lot of them are on DVD. Some of their original movies are interesting and I like how they do those marathons, as well as "xx Days of (TV Show/Movie Theme here)".

However, the ECW thing still sorta torques me off.

Just consider ECW to be "Paid Programming".

ECW is Science Fiction!

The matches are fiction. The winner is pre-determined.

The Science part comes from the world of Medical Science.
How much of a steroid will wrestler X require to achieve the
look he needs? How many pain killers will wrestler Y need after
the match? There is a science to creating these guys.

See? Science Fiction! ;)

I do mourn the days when SFC had orginal discussion shows and magazine shows, sci fi news and such. I don't even know what they have on during the day any more, since I'm not home and TV Guide has seen fit to list daytime shows as "various programming".

These days all I watch on SFC is Stargate, Galactica, Eureka, and Dr, Who. I'm glad to have those shows, but as far as I can see the rest of their programming is pure dren, nothing but felgercarb.

Some of their miniseries are decent. We thought The Lost Room was pretty cool. It could make an interesting series.

Ah, yes, the days before "SciFi 2.0 debuted in 1999. Around that same time they dumped a lot of their classic series. They only started re-running Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, The Incredible Hulk, etc. when Vivendi/Universal bought the channel back around 2001 or so.
