View Full Version : Suger Bowl Is Open!!!
jeffdavis38 10-22-2007, 11:23 PM Suger Bowl is open for Business.
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
The track will open up for its first race on Nov. 10th. We will be running Quarter Scale and 10th Scale. Working on getting Gascar events next year and QSAC NCS race next year. Hope to see all of you there on 11/10/07.
Tim Mc 10-22-2007, 11:29 PM It's good to see that ole gal survive! Now if we only had enough racers to go around....LOL.
jeffdavis38 10-22-2007, 11:35 PM We will work on that for next years layout. Need to get with you guys in AL. and rotate weekend around. That way we all can race together.
Tim Mc 10-22-2007, 11:46 PM I'm sure the Gascar guys will be thrilled to get back there! May even pull out a nitro pan and run it again myself! 60mph is cookin in a pan car!
You'll have to install a pitroad and put up fence if your gonna get QSAC there.
Echeconnee 10-23-2007, 11:51 AM who is running it? NCS race, @ the Sugar Bowl? It's too small, especially when you have tracks like Easley, Clover and Lagoon park to run at, plus there are no pits and there is no fence.
ScottH 10-23-2007, 07:55 PM WHAT?!?!?!?!?
How is this so? Who cares!??!
Who is running it and what kind of shape is it in?
Details -- deatails -- details!!
willyplankhead 10-23-2007, 08:32 PM last i herad bummmmmmmmmmmpy
Echeconnee 10-23-2007, 09:09 PM you heard wrong, in fact the bowl is one of the smoothest tracks ever!
Tim Mc 10-23-2007, 09:21 PM It is a great nitro track! The transition from high bank to flat coming off four is incredibly smooth. You have to live to understand it.
ScottH 10-23-2007, 11:23 PM IF this is track I know, the ground has not shifted and the weeds are not coming up through it.
This may just be the BEST TRACK EVER LAID DOWN. There were no bumps in this, the transition from the front straight to turn one would just pull that car around, you drift up down the back shoot into the tri-oval turn and dive into 3, through four and back to front.
AWESOME!!!!
Does seem a bit narrow for the 1/4's to me though.
Tim, what were the lap times for the Nitro-Pan cars? I know when I was last there we were running 4.6's with a 19t-6-cell and the open mod guys were around 4.2. In takling with JJ, when they were running 4-cell open mod they get them down intp the 4.1's I think.
Ahhhhh 315' of concrete speed, I CANNOT WAIT!!
Tim Mc 10-23-2007, 11:36 PM Low 4's is all I can remember...maybe lower? Kevin can tell us.
ScottH 10-23-2007, 11:40 PM At 4.2's that is an average of 51.36 MPH!!! Man I love that place, lots of grip and tons of speed!
fasteddie09 10-24-2007, 04:38 AM I ran 1/4 scale there it is fun.It is narrow for 1/4s but it is scale for our cars. It's very fast. Its a Bristal for 1/4 scale. Its very smooth its a blast to run.
LetsRace 10-24-2007, 10:25 AM need to see some pics of the this brital of 1/4
IN2RACIN 10-24-2007, 05:09 PM Do they have a web site?
Echeconnee 10-24-2007, 05:18 PM no web site
Rattler 10-24-2007, 05:37 PM I raced 1/4 scales there a few times and had a blast! Easy track to set up and the bite is awesome! You have to love the back straight with the little dog leg. Hit it right and your into turn 3-4 perfectly, Miss it and your in the wall! Narrow track, but a lot of fun!
A pit lane would help a great deal and access from the back side pits would help too! Other than that... great track!
Rattler...
jeffdavis38 10-24-2007, 08:50 PM We will be working on the track this winter. We are trying to see how much interest we can get in running down there or up there for some of you guys. Sorry I havn't got back with you all sooner but I've been covered up at work and the new business. I heard that they had a NCS race there a few years back and everyone loved it. I'm looking forward to racing there, maybe everyone needs alittle more give than take at a track like this. Hope we will have a good croud and see alot of new faces and old HAHAHA. All of us need to pull together and get this going.
ScottH 10-24-2007, 09:20 PM Jeff -- please contact Tim of GASCAR and let him know this.
Who is going to be running it?
Tim Mc 10-24-2007, 10:00 PM The races were organized by weekend racers. LPR, the Bowl, Clover and Easily all together under one series. QSAC was not involved in any form. The series was known as S.E.R.S. and only lasted one year. I still have my SERS card. It goes on Ebay soon. Just kiddin!
We tore the boards down so many times at the bowl, it turn into a work party. :) Six cars on the track made for some tight racing. Anymore than six, it's was a fiasco...just like other tracks...LOL:thumbsup:
garacer08 10-24-2007, 10:25 PM Bobby Hellard's the one that has looked at getting this track opened again. I live about 1/2 mile from the track and have taken a look at it recently. We have a lot of work to do to the facility before we race. I will have to talk to Bobby but we may need to get some help getting ready to reopen. Bobby talked to Shelly and he actually sounded excited about Bobby doing this and may even get him back in to the racing side if this works out and he comes up and watches. Some of the work that needs to be done are cutting the grass replacing some of the boards on the wall that are cracked, and getting the computer system back up and running which that should not be a problem. Races have been run there all along for the offroad up until this past July. The road guys from Indian Trail still run there some also. The track it self is still in great shape, no cracks, or bumps. The land that the track sets on has sold. There has been a rezoning problem with the land and the people that own the land have not touched it. This rezoning deal could pass soon but more than likely will not for at least 2yrs or longer. The owners now want to build a subdivision on it from what I heard but it's zoned Business. Trying to rezone in SugarHill is like pulling teeth from a alligator. This track needs to be used since its there. For those of us that have raced there know how much fun it was and how FAST it was. This track could still be one of the elite tracks in the country if we get back to running on it. I was fortunate enough to race at this track from the day it opened till about 2002. I had a blast running there and would love to put my .12 pan car back on that track. We did run low 4's back in the day. It would be great to see those cars on the track again. I think the plane will be running .12 nitro, .09 nitro, and 17.5 brushless/lipo along with 1/4 scale.
garacer08 10-24-2007, 10:32 PM Jeff -- please contact Tim of GASCAR and let him know this.
Who is going to be running it?
Scott I think Bobby has called Tim and left him a message. If I'm not mistaking thats what Bobby told me yesterday. I could be wrong. It would be nice to get GASCAR and maybe even Mclin's Nitro series to come down. To get this to work we will need you and Tim and your people along with Cliff and his people to make this happen. Most of the 60+ locals that ran there back in the day has got out of the hobby. Some may get back in but alot would not.
ScottH 10-24-2007, 10:36 PM So the current owners are cool with it?
IMHO, this will be better than the Lanier track. From the "ramp" standpoint and the $$ one.
garacer08 10-24-2007, 10:56 PM Yes as far as I know. Bobby talked to Jan Sunday and she was all for it but said he would have to talk to Shelly. He talked to Shelly I think on Monday night or Tues morning. He said by all means. The current owners had told Shelly that we could continue using it until development started. Shelly has also left the power on at the track so any one that wanted to go up and play could charge batts, etc. I think the water is still on there also. Yes this would be nice to run vs the lanier track but one of these days it will be gone and I would like to be able to go back to Lanier as long as we have a barrier for the ripple strips. I think we will be able to get at least 2+ yrs out of it. Who knows we may be able to race there for the next 3-4 yrs. As long as its around and we can get people to show up lets use it. The only bump in the road for this may be Bobby having the time to get the track ready and keeping it up and promoting the track to get people out to race. Bobby has his own bus. and gets very little time to work at other things.
Great Track, Great Memories!!!
I'm coming for sure, Just say when.
Craig 10-25-2007, 11:47 AM Probably get more 1/10th scale input and interest in the OVAL TRACK DISCUSSION thread.

jeffdavis38 11-25-2007, 10:53 PM The track is located off of I-85 exit 115 Hwy 20. You go west on hwy 20 about 6 to 7 miles. When road goes back to a two lane road you will go threw two red lights and the track is on the left. Big sign on the road can't miss it.
