View Full Version : 2008 QSAC Dirt National.
IN2RACIN 10-22-2007, 03:02 PM Hi All,
I have a question.
If there were another ¼ scale Sprint (possibly Dirt Late Model too) Dirt National @ Shaffer Speedway in 2008 would you attend?...It would be july 11 & 12.
I have been approached by some very respectable QSAC members / racers that are willing to help make this event happen. I have also been asked by many racers to have this race again. I’m not sure if it will happen, but I would like everyone’s input.
Thank You,
Scott George

Tim Mc 10-22-2007, 06:13 PM Scott,
You can make your own body from lexan sheeting. As far as the nose, cut an old stock car body if you have one around the end of the hood. You can paint it black or whatever color you choose on the outside. These make the best looking out there. You can also back-pour a body in the nose, then have a sign shop form if for you. They usually have enough scrap lying around & will not charge you. Yep, the nose will be thick using sign material :)
Where can one find a dirt LM body?
Alloyparts 10-23-2007, 07:59 AM I do belive that we would be making the trip to race again, we would be bringing down 7 or 8 from our track, we are also working on getting our track sactioned for next season.
Here is a picture of it, the track has a 425' runline and it is all clean red clay (NO ROCKS) we are bringing in more clay to add just a bit more banking going into turns 1 and 3

IRONCITY 10-23-2007, 10:21 AM #5 Kelloggs will be there YOU NEED RULES FOR DIRT LATEMODELS size of body (LxWxH), spoiler and side dam if any. For Chassis and Motor maybe QSAC GN/Sportsman rules so anyone that can come up with a body could race this would make it fair for all. No special one of a kind cars that nobody else would have. Also when I started in 1/4 scale QSAC had a class called ASA the body looked like a Latemodle to me it was made out of black ABS. If the mold is still around maybe new ones could be pulled out of lexan. This way everone would have the same type of body making it equal for all.
PeterR 10-23-2007, 05:13 PM What about using my late model as an example. It is44" long 20"wide and 14"high.
Photos are on here under MY NEW AUSSIE LATE MODEL. Bodies are aluminium and the nose is just plastic. Just my 2 cents worth. Pete.
Belf28 10-23-2007, 05:41 PM if the Dirt Latemodel thing happens ...this is what i had in mind for my body i will be making it to look just like this

big maestro 10-23-2007, 08:50 PM Good one to copy jamie, Rick eckert is the man. I have a 1/10 scale body of that car somewhere. I have one of the ASA camaro bodies but I am definetly not going to run it on dirt. If someone wants to use it to back pour or what ever you do to make a mold for lexan I would be more than happy to let them use it. I will post a pic of it later.
heres the pic.

Who made this body?
fish4check 10-24-2007, 07:41 PM My Garmin needs a address. Road trip!!!!
big maestro 10-24-2007, 07:50 PM The body was made by RACO back in the mid to late 80's.
Whan they are painted up they look really sharp. If anyone knows someone that can make lexan copies of this body let me know I will ship it to them.
Tim Mc 10-24-2007, 08:09 PM Lance,
If you can pour into that body, then it can be copied. In other words, if the body was once formed over a mold, then no problem. BUT, if it was formed from the outside...not easy to do.
big maestro 10-24-2007, 10:18 PM Yea, thats what I was afraid of. This was formed from the outside. If anyone else has any ideas let me know. I would be glad to let someone copy it. I missed a lexan one on ebay last year, that would have been nice to have.
Tim Mc 10-25-2007, 11:16 PM This is by far the best dirt late model body I've seen for 1/4 scale. The nose is made from a used body & was painted from the outside.
I forgot to add... the body is one of Jeff Cleveland's works of art. Nice!

IN2RACIN 11-25-2007, 11:33 AM Lets get back to the topic.
IF there were a sprint car dirt National @ Shaffer's who's in? I need to know.
jbrooks39 11-25-2007, 11:55 AM Scott-
I am out of the "traveling" picture for a few years. With an eleven month old at home and Mom staying home until he is in primary school, money is a bit tight.
Everyone I talked with that was at the 2007 event had a blast. Sounds like it will continue to be a blast!

My Brother and I would like to make it from Calif.....
as long as the date don't interfere with our points races out here....
No 2008 Schedule yet out here
IRONCITY 11-26-2007, 01:19 AM The 2007 Dirt National Champ #5 Kellogg's will be in looking to repeat.
22Dasher 11-26-2007, 01:33 AM I'm looking at making the trip as well.
fish4check 11-26-2007, 11:37 AM I would like to see a later date if possible? More into July and August.
4-8 from Timberline Raceway will make the trip!
IN2RACIN 11-26-2007, 02:50 PM I have been getting a decent response on the car count. This was not an easy decision, but with the help of some GREAT friends and Tim Shaffer there will a Dirt National @ Shaffer Speedway (racing under the lights) in 2008!
Look for a Dirt National race (new) date to be announced later this week!
jeffdavis38 11-28-2007, 02:04 AM Are you going to run dirt latemodels? If so I will be there. I don't like much finishing the body. Not sure what chassis I'm going to run any ideas? Maybe a Bullseye!
IN2RACIN 11-28-2007, 12:42 PM Are you going to run dirt latemodels?
That’s a good question. More than likely yes. Let me check into it. Did Lance (or whoever) finish the dirt late model body yet?
That’s a good question. More than likely yes.
Remember, a Dirt Late Model class @ the Dirt Nats. is not 100% guarantee yet. I’m working on it though (rules). More to come.
jeffdavis38 11-28-2007, 01:15 PM Haven't talked with Lance but I'm almost done with the one I'm doing for me.

Jeff.....you run late model with the Bullseye and we will Run Sprintcars..

jeffdavis38 11-28-2007, 08:46 PM That sounds good. I think that car would be good with the latemodel body because of the shock towers look further apart. That would be alot better for that big body. Gitter Done and we will make it happen.

sprint2b 11-30-2007, 06:18 AM Where is that body from or did you make it?? I'm still undesided on the material if I make one, lexan or sheetmetal.
jeffdavis38 12-01-2007, 03:24 AM I use all Lexan on my bodies. Sheet metal don't pop back out and I'm rough. LOL
