I had too much school work to do. My son has had surgery recently, so I got behind on school work and I had to catch up. Hopefully I'll see you at downtown Erie.

Where will everyone go?

Chuck

next closest option would be Freddies Hobbies in Ravenna.
A little small to run 19T and mod but very fun for spec and stock classes.

Well guys don't take offence to this but Classic closed due to lack of support from the electric guys..... the number of guys dropped off last winter and there was 0000 support from any electric guys this summer.... You can't keep a place open without the revenue....

You can't really not take offense to that.

However please look at statistics from all across the country...

Oval racing is in a big slump right now. There is a very little amount of racers coming into this genre of the hobby, unfortunately.

Electric racing is in a slump now especially because of the battery situation.

Also, a track alone WILL NOT support itself. It's sad but true. Especially an oval only track. For a oval track to survive or even attempt to survive on it's own it has to be a flat track and be able to hold road course races, because there are not enough oval racers arround to cover the cost. If you have a road course as well you can serve both sides of the market and have a shot at owning a self supported track.

unfortunately all of the above contributed to the closure of Classic hobbies...

Point taken.... Rc racing in general is down big time...I used to help run several tracks and I can say over the last 5 years there has been a steady decrease in racers in all types 1/10 scale oval and offroad, 1/4 scale you name it... hell 2.89 a gallon for gas doesn't help either

Exactly. I just don't want the closure of Classic to be put on us (the racers), especially when my uncle and myself were faithfull for about 10 years every week. Outside the time spend traveling to or testing for big races.

I'm not laying blame on anyone..... I know Walt kept holding out in hopes of some of the guys {Electric} racing this summer.... I was there every weekend that I didn't work... But I run a 1/4 scale in the summer. Oh well this has been coming for a couple years now. I just hate to see any track close especially one that has been ther for 18 years

this just frees up walt to get his 1/4 scale out, dusted off and play for a change.
He deserves to go have fun now and let someone else deal with the headachs.

Appriciate the track and the good times while it lasted Walt.

cant just blame electric guys theres lots of guys who race 1/4 scale who quit racing indoor so it has to do with alot of factors, but either way what is done is done racing in a whole is really down due to the economy and the fact that racing has too many issues like batterys, WAY 2 many classes and greed of major manufactors.

thank you Walt for so many years of fun!

I too will miss racing at Classic. Walt thanks for all your help and for alot of fun and good racing. Just like a home you have house payment, gas, electric, repairs. all takes money. my heat bill for my home last winter went up 40%.

I plan on going to Freddies and try racing on a flat track after 15 years of banks.

I heard the place he rented from up'd the rental fee of the building/land etc
So I am sure that played a part as well.
Walt once told me what he payed per month for the lease before the rate increase. Honestly I dont know how he afforded to keep the doors open the past couple years. I did the math once in my head and he had to be just breaking even if that.
So I guess we should thank him for keeping it open as long as he did.

Hope all works out for the best for Walt.
