He was the last living member of the Rat Pack which included Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, etc. A legacy has passed with the passing of this man. Long Live Ocean's Eleven !!

I occasionally watched Bishop's late night talk show when I was a kid. Regis Philbin was his sidekick. I still remember one show where Jackie Mason was the guest. If you closed your eyes, you couldn't tell Mason and Bishop apart.

For years, I thought the cartoon character below was voiced by Joey Bishop.

Turns out it was actually comedian John Byner imitating Jackie Mason!

I remember thinking that Doggy Daddy (of "Augie Doggy and Doggy Daddy") was supposed to be Joey Bishop.....

What many people didn't realize is that much of the Rat Pack's seemingly spontaneous, off-the-cuff stage patter was written by Joey Bishop. Frank Sinatra dubbed him "the Hub of the Big Wheel," citing him as the originator of most of the group's comic material and the one who anchored their stage presence. He and Dino were also said to be the only members who could tell jokes at Sinatra's expense!

Just think -- with so many of today's young people interested in pop culture from way before they were born (judging by YouTube), a whole new generation may start gambling, drinking martinis, staying up till dawn, and calling women "broads"!I remember thinking that Doggy Daddy (of "Augie Doggy and Doggy Daddy") was supposed to be Joey Bishop.....Doggie Daddy's voice was an imitation of Jimmy Durante. But you knew that, didn't you?

Today, "Doggie Daddy" sounds like a rapper.

Doggie Daddy's voice was an imitation of Jimmy Durante.

Unmistakenly.
