Hey guys, I have the MG 10AD power supply for my track. 0-20 v adjustable - 10 amps. Nice no problems in the six months i have owned it. If i set it to
20 v is that truly 20v?? The knob and the dial will both go past the designated 20v mark and there is much more power!! It is rated for 20v which should i believe? thanks in advance. mj

Measure it with a voltmeter. If it's designed for constant 20V operation there is probably some additional engineering margin built in. It might not be able to support the full current rating if you exceed the specified voltage, or perhaps the regulation may drop off a bit when it is run out of spec.

Thanks AFX. should i measure at the poles of the power supply or at the track rails? The poles i bet but i thought i'd ask. mj

I suggest measuring at the outputs on the power supply.
If your test meter shows a different voltage output then your PS display (and assuming then that your test meter is accurate), you may be able to adjust the display on your PS to match the true voltage.
On my PS (a PSLAB30 with LED meters) the voltmeter on the PS was not accurate. I opened the case, and there was a dial on the back of the voltmeter, which could be adjusted so the display read the true output voltage that I was getting with my meter.

I'll buy a voltmeter and check it out. thx mj
