From Spark, the winning #17 from the 1987 Le Mans 24 Hours - as you all might have guessed, I rather like the Group C era from 1982-91!

I engine cover looks much cleaner without the big air scoop. It's interesting to see how the 956/962 changed over the years.

The 956/962 never had the large engine scoop - that was a feature of the earlier 936 model.

The 956 & 962 were similar superficially - the main difference was the placement of the front axle. In the 956 the drivers legs extended beyond the axle - as a safety issue, on the 962, the axle was positioned further forward so your feet were behind it.

You're right, but in the US ,the Porsche teams like Al Holbert,Rob Dyson, and Jim Busby did make modifications to the original factory design in the late 1980's to compete with newer cars from Nissan,Jaguar ,and Toyota.

Didn't know that - just had a look at a pic of the #67 winning 962 from the 1989 Daytona 24 Hours - and there it is, a wide scoop on the rear bodywork above the engine. Obviously effective, but, damn ugly!

No, I haven't got the Aussie Porsche :)

I know Minichamps have recently released it in 1:43 - sold out quickly I believe.

I'm trying to keep to the works cars - although I couldn't resit the HPI "Canon" 956.

Keep the Group C stuff coming. There are a couple of great racing simulation Mods, 1 for EAs F1 championship, named the Prototype C mod, and 1 for Nascar Racing, named GTP, if you are into computer racing sims, you know these! In the PTC mod, the 956s are tough to master.
