View Full Version : How do you hook up this wretched DVD player?!!
CaptFrank 10-16-2007, 04:48 AM My mother has a "cable-ready" television. That means it
has only one connection for any signal input: a coaxial cable
threaded jack.
I bought her a DVD player. Why don't these things have an
output that uses a coaxial cable?
So.
How do I convert the output from the DVD machine to fit
the the TV?
Is there a special connection I could use?
oscaryu1 11-20-2007, 09:41 PM How is that hard? You need a RCA to Coxial Converter. Walmart cells them...

CaptFrank 11-21-2007, 02:45 AM It's not hard, per se.
My frustration lies in the absence of a coaxial "out"
on the DVD player.
Why do they build them with Fiber optic, a strange new connector
they call coaxial but looks nothing like a cable tv cable,
and component connections, yet not include the traditional
coaxial cable connection?
How do I take three RCA cables (One video, two audio)
and plug them into a TV that only has a coaxial "in"?
oscaryu1 11-21-2007, 09:30 AM You'll need a box like adapter. RCA in, and then Coxial out... I can't find a picture, but it's basically a RCA in, and COXIAL OUT. Rca includes the white red and yellow into one coaxial connection...
I can't find a picture, just look at Walmart's TV section. I'd be pretty obvious. Box-like by the way.
lordraptor1 11-27-2007, 10:28 PM i can get you a pic of what you would need to hook it up just shoot me an e-mail
CaptFrank 11-28-2007, 12:05 AM Thanks, lordraptor1.
I was in Radio Shaft looking for something, and the jerk/clerk
showed me a device that did what I want. It was a big box
for $25!! :eek:
Just to connect three wires?!
magua 01-01-2008, 06:34 PM Does anybody know anything about TechForce made by Axlon in the 80's. Or where i can get one fixed. I have one but it doesn't seem to work.
Tycoarm 02-02-2008, 06:56 PM DVD players are just that, players. There are no tuners in them like VCR's so no need for coax 75ohm cable connection.
All the connections on the back of the dvd player are outputs. The coax (Orange) and optical outputs are for sound only all others are for video playback.
The TV should have video imputs depending on the set. Just match the color output on the DVD player to the color inputs on the TV
Standard TV using RCA jacks
Yellow= Video Only
Red = right speaker
white= left speaker
blue, green, are for component hookup only for Hi Def picture if hookin up to a hi def TV
Hope this Helped.
circuitfxr 05-19-2009, 01:23 AM Tycoarm.....It sounds like he has a very old TV with no inputs for external devices. There are some older TVs that only have a single coaxial connector for a cable. These TVs always required external conversion boxes for any type of device hook-up whether it be a simple video game (RF modulator required), or a video camera (have to connect to VCR input or buy a conversion box). Very frustrating. When these sets were sold the only device people were attaching was a VCR and most of them used the standard coaxial connection because they had tuners in them as well. With the introduction of the newer devices such as DVD's, VidCam's, and video games, the TV manufactures started incorporating the appropriate input jacks to accomodate. I would recommend he give serious consideration to updating the TV. There is a good chance that a set that old probably doesn't have a digital tuner and he will soon be left with no TV reception either. TV stations will not be broadcasting in the analog format much longer, however, if he wants to keep the old set going he will be in need of another adapter box. Time to let go and update. :wave:

Sounds like the unit has reached it's life cycle. Anyway, June 12 is is fast approaching, good excuse to upgrade to that HD model you've been wanting. ;) rr
