TBRC1 10-13-2007, 11:52 PM OK OVAL racers I have been in touch with the race director at this INCREDIBLE indoor ASPHALT racing facility. At this time there are talks going on to try and get one or more oval events there. Trust me you'll never put your car on a smoother asphalt track The catch is we'll need the numbers to make it happen. If you want another view on this track just ask Abdule here on Hobby Talk. He and Everette Lane ran there the last time oval was raced there. They were also the fastest of the few of us there......can we say RE-program the lap counter 4 or 5 times to keep up with these two racers.
So as I get info from the race director I'll pass it onto you here and as racers can commit to dates I'll pass that onto him. So come on oval racers let's get together and make this happen !!!!!!!!!!!!!  The plan is to work around the Glen Burnie races and the final ORL warm up and race dates so as many races as possible can make it.
JH Racing 10-14-2007, 12:21 AM What day is it on.
Mr.fastman 10-14-2007, 08:43 AM Sounds good Toby - I guess we'll have to generate some interest
jmcminn 10-14-2007, 09:49 AM Always up for a new track! Any pics?
abdule 10-14-2007, 10:17 AM as smoooo :woohoo: oooooooth as a pool table
TBRC1 10-14-2007, 10:40 AM For pics go to www.htufrederickmd.com there are some shots one thier site. But remember when you see them your gonna thingk the track is black ozite since the asphalt is soooooooooooooooooo smooth. I mean this place is smoother than Kranzels carpet.
BEACH 10-14-2007, 10:41 AM Us WillowMillers are in, just let me know when. Jim
TBRC1 10-14-2007, 08:20 PM As I get info you get info
JH Racing 10-14-2007, 08:26 PM Oh so it's not a definate thing yet.
TBRC1 10-14-2007, 08:35 PM Like I said at the beginning of this thread "Talks are going on" I'm going to try and do my best to get this to happen since there seems to be support for it on this thread already. At this time by a rough count there are almost 4 times the races intersted than we had the first time.
JH Racing 10-14-2007, 08:56 PM Like I asked "their is nothing in set yet"????????????????????????????????
TBRC1 10-14-2007, 09:56 PM That's about it ...................man being in limbo is a boring thing. I kinda hate waiting for stuff even info, but if it's what I have to be doing so be it.
JH Racing 10-14-2007, 10:29 PM It's great that a new track is open though.
abdule 10-15-2007, 05:40 AM it's not a new track, they are just an on-road track.
JH Racing 10-15-2007, 07:06 AM It's new to me because I did'nt know that it existed.
Jamie Hanson 10-15-2007, 11:18 AM It is my home track. 5 minutes from my home. I will see if I can go grab some pictures of it later today and post them.
It is SMOOTH. We run 12th scale roadcourse with 2.5mm ride height and it never touches the ground. The big thing is we need some big showings. I guess oval was tried here in the past. The first time they had 20 or so guys show up which is cool. The guys all said they would come back, and when only 5 came, that was the end of that.
So if enough people commit, Oval can be done. I am guessing it will most likely be Sunday racing, because their sedan program is strong on Saturdays right now.
I know this question will come up. Tires I have no clue about. I do know that I run the same tires on my 12th car at this track as I would on Carpet. There is that much grip. I would not think the rubber tire family (pinks, purples) will be needed. Again not sure yet.
BEACH 10-15-2007, 03:21 PM HEHEHE, he said RUBBER!
abdule 10-15-2007, 07:13 PM is that the same thing that comes in a single package, that I use to carry in my wallet?
Jesse Bean 10-17-2007, 02:09 PM wonder if caps would work, lol. three l's i guess would be the only way..you ever try caps on flat jamie?
TBRC1 10-18-2007, 08:05 PM HEY guys as of yet NO responce to my emails sent to the race director out there so maybe some "gentle nudging" from you oval racers out there could help things out
Jamie Hanson 10-18-2007, 08:13 PM I spoke to the Hobbyshop owner briefly about it. There are a couple things that would need to take pace to make this an oval. Aside from the boards, we would need to make some corners. Also we would need to get permission from the owner to cut some slots in the track for a transponder loop. There is one there now, but it would be mid-corner of the oval.
You will not be able to reach the other for a bit. He is in Chicago at the hobby show. He will be back on Tuesday I think.
TBRC1 10-18-2007, 10:31 PM Jamie I can help out on fridays as well as the regular weekend days....that is as long as there is no racing at Glen Burnie. Out side of that let me know and I'll help as I can with planning and setting up the track and such. Even if it means going out to help setup the track for oval saturday night after road course. That is unless I ever get a 1/12th scale car then I would already be there on those nights.
signman501 10-19-2007, 09:06 AM Jamie will you be at The C this Sat? If you are there I might see if we can stop by.
Jamie Hanson 10-19-2007, 11:38 AM I plan on it. I need a break from the oval for a weekend. So it is sedan racing this Saturday.
jmcminn 10-19-2007, 06:09 PM :freak: Break from Oval?!?!?!??
I can't understands this :freak:
TBRC1 10-19-2007, 09:41 PM Join the club Jon :D
Jamie Hanson 10-20-2007, 01:40 AM :freak: Break from Oval?!?!?!??
I can't understands this :freak:
I have to keep my skills sharp somehow..... There is nothing better than a twitchy ass 12th scale going left and right. When it goes back to all left turns, it is like a breath of fresh air..
jmcminn 10-23-2007, 08:36 AM Sooo what’s the plans on this track? Will there be Oval? Is Oval doable? I will not be a regular but I would show up for race events. What’s the story?
TBRC1 10-23-2007, 07:18 PM I'm still waiting for email responce from the race director out there. Once I know something or he posts here we'll all know. BUT remember when the date is made we ALL have to do our best to make a good showing.
jmcminn 11-07-2007, 10:49 AM any news?
abdule 11-07-2007, 06:49 PM I think it's time to move on........................
TBRC1 11-07-2007, 07:41 PM Well I'm going to talk to the race director out there this weekend. I'll be there working on my new car ..............A 12L4
signman501 11-09-2007, 04:59 PM If anyone is listening I would be glad to get with a few guys and go over there to talk with the shop owner. Right now I'm getting ready for the Open Wheel Dirt race in NC. After that I'd like to look into racing some oval at The C if it happens.
TBRC1 11-09-2007, 09:21 PM Signman we need all the numbers and showing of interest we can get. It would be a shame not enjoy our oval cars on such a great track. I might be out there sat playing with my new car. I can hear the wrist creaking now on the right turns
TBRC3 11-18-2007, 07:28 PM toby you know i'm up for it i bee wanting to try my car there since i couldnt before cause other reasons
TBRC1 11-19-2007, 08:40 PM OK RACERS HERE'S THE DEAL......................you call you email if you can drop in and ask about the idea, possibility even the hopeful reality of oval at the coliseum. I can only do so much if EVERY ONE OF YOU does not pick up your fair part of the planning, interest or requesting one racer will not make it happen ALL OF US NEED TO JOIN TOGETHER for this to happen. If it does'nt hey see everyone with 1/12 scalers so we can keep on racing. After all I can only do the Bill France SR hing so far..........................after that it's up to you.
abdule 11-19-2007, 11:07 PM that's really good, Toby, We'll all show up one day with our Oval stuff and see what they say......................
JH Racing 11-19-2007, 11:17 PM Well it's simple you go to the owner or whoever runs the show and say hey you have a nice place have you thought of maybe running oval and if he says yes you say we run at The Hobby town in Glenn Burnie every other Sunday,The Sunday's we do not run at Glenn Burnie we could come here if you are willing to set an oval up.
TBRC3 11-19-2007, 11:36 PM jh you have a good point but that would work for some of us yes but i dont know if all the glen burnie racers would go on those Sunday's they don't race here but for me hell if i could race every Sunday sign me up and let me know where I'm going lmao.
jmcminn 11-20-2007, 08:40 AM SO is there a date to run Oval there??? Are the willing to try??? Set a date in the future Get the message OUT and see what happens!
Larry B 11-20-2007, 01:28 PM I need a date to committ. I would like to give it a try.
TBRC1 11-20-2007, 09:02 PM GUYS I wish there was a set date at this time. I would like to know how many out there have contacted the store in anyway about oval ???
Abdule do I sence sarcasim there ?? If not what the heck....why not choose a date and as many of us that just show up on a sunday with stuff and see what happens.
You racers want to race on the smoothest asphalt you'll ever set a car on contact them and let them know your interested.
Larry B 11-20-2007, 09:31 PM Toby, I just sent the following E-mail to them.
To whom it concern,
I have been reading on an internet site that your facility has R/C on-racing. I understand that if there is enough intrest that an oval race could be held. I have heard nothing but reports on your facility and would be willing to drive from Richmond. Va if a race where to be held.
We just lost our track here in central Virginia (building was sold) and the racers are looking for somewhere to race, if only once or twice this winter. If this were to happen I would like to suggest a date in late Feb. or early March. That time period is after some major events held in FL.
TBRC1 11-20-2007, 10:58 PM There ya go Larry has the idea ...Thanks larry
J-Dub Racing 11-21-2007, 12:55 AM I would be willing to borrow one of Seven's cars and race up there. Or Jamie Hanson can give me a car....
Good luck guys, it would be pretty cool to get a race up there.
Joel White
Jamie Hanson 11-21-2007, 12:59 AM Here is the deal guys..... Hobbytown is my home onroad track. An oval could be setup there. The problem exists in two areas that effect each other. This track gets a really good onroad turnout EVERY Saturday. So the oval races would not be held on Saturdays. They would have to be on Sundays.
A big problem is switching the layout over. Because this is an asphalt track, the boards need velcro to hold them in one place. It would take some time to pull up the velcro and move boards around to make an oval. A couple of on-road guys have said it should not be that hard because you have one straight already. The back straight measures 8 feet wide. To make this a decent oval they should be about 15 foot wide. The track measures 100x46.
So to really make this work we would need to find a way for quick change from oval to road. Does anyone have any good ides to items other than velcro to hold down boards that will not move during impact but is still easy to pull up?
All this information is of my own opinion at this point. I have not gone to the track with any ideas yet. I don't want to unless I have things marked out.
Jamie Hanson 11-21-2007, 01:06 AM For people who ae curious, here are a couple pictures of the track.
The pictures are small so here is a link to a larger picture.

fisherracing 11-21-2007, 05:27 PM Jamie, let me see if I can find out how the old RCO did it, they were in door asphalt and had onroad on sat. and oval on sunday and had NO problem with how they did it.
JimBeach I think RCO used 1.5 inch sq.x1/8 or 3/16 wall steel tubing.
