View Full Version : sf - pininfarina, citroen and guildsman
The Moutain 10-12-2007, 06:18 PM little difference with the 56 pininfarina. straight and curved fronts with high and low letters. there is also and slight grill difference in front of the window, the metal grill looks like a different size, on these the left sides of the grill are smaller.

different under hood castings on the 51 citroen.
different rear castings, with small and large brace above tow hitch. there are a few more that didn’t come out too well, different size hood emblems and rear wheel covers.

base plate variation on the 40 guildsman, mostly notable the pat app lettering and wheel axle braces

SMS88 10-13-2007, 11:57 AM Guildsman 3 different positions of doorhandle - that is interesting -opens the possibility of there being 3 different tools unless 1 is a sequential alteration .Although with shadows the paint on car 1 looks thicker than the paint on car 2 -perhaps this is a distortion effect and really car 1 and car 2 could be the same casting under the paint.
Orange-red seats in a Citroen SM  - a variation I have never seen in the metal yet
The Moutain 10-15-2007, 06:19 PM it also looks like every time the handle was lowered it got smaller.
here is a orange interior citroen in a cut blister. which was a common way to store and display models.
the blister has red writing instead of black and 51citroen m

I have seen a fair number of blisters cut like that , and thought whoever collected and cut it clearly didnt like the art work! I guess from the blue-yellow card design that this is one of those New Jersey factory blisters, where there was more flexibility than back in Hackney.
A tool is a mirror of the casting, so in modifying a tool it is easy to shave off material (making the relevent part of the casting larger) but a lot more expensive to add material making the casting smaller, so if there is a third doorhandle, then number 2 was probably changed to become no1, with no 3 being the second twin
The Moutain 10-16-2007, 05:01 PM the cut blister made it easier to display on a table for sale or trade, rather than spreading out full blisters.
that was an extra one

Lummox 10-16-2007, 06:51 PM I just got to look over an SM at my shop for the first time.....wow.

I see that both boxes are the first issue with ´new´ outlined - these orange seats were a short run, I wonder if they were a very short run (thousands not tens of thousands) from the beginning of SM production when a different body color was expected to be selected or if they were made for color trial /tool testing models? I have seen the various shades of yellow and cream seats, but orange only turns up in better US/Canadian collections online these days
Hi Lummox - what type of motor was fitted to the real deal in your shop? I have seen at least one parked in the streets but never seen under the hood
The Moutain 10-18-2007, 07:46 PM the orange interior sm is a good candidate for a trial model that was released to the stores. there were a lot around but that was collector to collector.
here are some less common blistered sf. not all that rare but probably difficult to find in a blister. i can’t say they were blister only releases.
i have a few more like these, i will try to post them.

Lummox 10-19-2007, 07:10 PM The SM had a Maserati V-6 4OHC.
Hence the "M" in SM.
The owner said they had problems with the timing chains, not soft cams as I origonally thought.
Must have looked at this car for almost an hour - facinating.
