View Full Version : 21T Spec Motor??'s
tw78911sc 10-11-2007, 02:25 PM New to spec motors, what kind of amp draw do they typically make @ 2volts w/o fan? What numbers should I look for on a Fantom Dyno to let me know if I'm in the ball park? Thx
Tom

Back when we ran the Bombers I remember 4 volts no fan was a good amp draw number but you needed some good orions to get it pull that.
Most of the time 4383's pulled about 2-3 amps.
Gear it up till it dumps then start backing off to make runtime.
tw78911sc 10-12-2007, 04:58 PM Thanks Eric, hows it going? you racing again? I moved to NC, closest track is in SC, and the big class is spec trucks. Should be fun, I was shocked to see how few amps that big heavy arm pulled.

erock1331 10-14-2007, 10:59 AM Hey Tom,
Nah no racing for me. Getting married next Saturday and building a new home that we move into in Nov. So its been a hectic year.
Good luck with the spec Trucks !!
jmcdo28 10-14-2007, 11:42 AM tom, with f brushes a good spec motor pulls 3.5-4.2 amps.

latemodel100 10-17-2007, 03:36 PM HEY TOM good luck with those bad boys ( the motors and the folks that race down there ) SPec is still very big down that way ............................
ncracer1st 11-18-2007, 11:05 PM what are the best brushes and springs for these motors?
tw78911sc 11-26-2007, 12:48 AM I've been told, and am running F brush with silver/black springs. silver on neg side
Tom
J-Dub Racing 11-26-2007, 02:38 PM Some places require either F brushes or R brushes (old Arcor rules). You have to be careful with the amp draw on these motors. If you are running spec pacs sometimes less is better, as you can gear higher without dumping. I wouldn't get much over 3 amps or so with my motors, but they would run just fine on the track. Good luck Tom!
Oh yeah, I would run the R brushes and Dip the motor every run.

Krisfo 12-02-2007, 08:55 PM I Personally have good luck with F brushes, and putnam x brushes with staying with stock springs....
mr_meat68 03-07-2008, 12:35 AM spec guys, there's a bunch of spec motors on ebay if anybody is looking for any....

billdawg 04-09-2008, 04:39 PM hope its ok to put this here, i have some over in the swap/sell area
Bart Diaz 05-03-2008, 03:06 PM Hey guys I have EX-Spec motors on electonic swap if anyone is interested.
EricL 10-26-2008, 11:10 AM so....I need speed secrets....hehe
How can I get 4 amp draw off of my motors?
BoneSpec 11-06-2008, 06:57 PM tweak your springs :)
EricL 11-07-2008, 03:40 AM tweak your springs :)
...hmmmm.
played around with some motors this week. Did some math on this. Thinkin, maybe I don't wanna have that much Amp draw...oops!
Using my RC oval theory I've developed a math problem...
According to my calculations... pushin a car that weighs 2.06lbs with a rollout of about 2.50 around a 175 foot drive line for 4 minutes usning 4.8 volt batteries and remembering that there are only 240 seconds to race with a drive time drop of .000.02 seconds each lap using a (blank) amp magnifier(ESC) and using (blank) brushess and (blank) and (blank) springs on them. With an Armeture measuring about .268" or 6.81mm and using (blank) lube on the bushings and not to mention chassis set up... :::::yawn:::: man! I'm exhausted!<<<heres the problem!
Gotta rest so I can race!:woohoo:

I put too dang much time and effort in to my way of thinkin....dont I?
BoneSpec 11-07-2008, 04:35 AM well, since legal weight is 2.375 ounces, I see your either cinfused or cheating :)
SEVEN handout motors to break-in and test.
Turned one to .270, the rest I just cleaned up only as much as needed. All al the standard 4383 brushes except one.

I don't cheat(hacker...jk)
2nd of all....I don't need Seven motors....I need one.(less weight I gotta carry to the track). plus a spare....just in case...you know.....comm failure lol
EricL 11-07-2008, 06:42 AM BTW... where can I get a can of Brush Spring Oil?
(snicker)...

BoneSpec 11-08-2008, 02:15 AM dang it, I knew I forgot that as a test for one motor!
NCFRC 11-09-2008, 08:00 AM Does anyone need a 5 amp + motor at 2 volts ?
Bought off E-bay and this baby hauls , I only ran once, ran just warm.

Holy crap! 5 amps????
BoneSpec 11-09-2008, 02:24 PM 3 minute races?
NCFRC 11-09-2008, 11:36 PM Maybe only three minutes with lousy 1600's.
I ran it with Sanyo 1900 SCR's ,,, 4 minutes still running strong

4 cell or 6 cell pack???
NCFRC 11-11-2008, 09:03 PM 4 cell
EricL 11-12-2008, 12:06 AM 4 cell
was that saddle ...or stick packs....and ....do you have a link to the supplier?
NCFRC 11-12-2008, 07:23 PM We bought 100 un-matched Sanyo 1900 SCR cells and randomly put them into packs of 4 , side by side with 12 guage solid house wire.
We've been amazed at how consistent these cells are , as I've tested several of the racers packs and they are ALL good.
I believe we got them from www.batteries.com ?? It's been a couple years.
With the copper wire exposed you could put them into a 0.0 tray for a week or just put a 10 ohm resistor across the pack.
All racers in this class had to use a connector on the battery and the motor.
At a ''20'' amp load , these at 240 sec would be at 4.47 , with roughly 300 sec runtime.
If you can still get them , buy em , you won't regret it.
It's the same cell thats in Towers 1900 packs . Nicad , still the toughest !
EricL 11-18-2008, 06:40 AM what is everyones' opinion, as far as shimin the armeture? What works most efficiently? Most importantly, who's gonna spill the beans on this subject?
Eric L
BoneSpec 11-18-2008, 06:50 AM I'm not telling.........just a middle of the magnets opinion.
