View Full Version : 6 million dollar man on DVD - not too promissing Old_McDonald 10-09-2007, 01:18 PM The Six Million Dollar Man may not be coming out on DVD anytime soon. They had good writing and decent effects budgets. I recall seeing them and thinking they were pretty good, so I'd really be interested in those. But I don't think I'd bother with the resulting tv series. Even as a kid, it disappointed me fairly often. I hear ya, I pray that all of these people who are already rich, wake up one day knowing they are on their deathbed and realize just how much money they lost by not selling the rights and investing the money. I hope they feel the loss  DinoMike 10-11-2007, 09:14 AM This is why I bought the UK releases of seasons 1 and 2. If I wait for an official Region 1 release, I might be too old to see the screen! Now if Universal Playback would hurry & get season 3 & up released over there..... Trek Ace 10-11-2007, 03:13 PM I have the original pilot film, titled Cyborg: The Six Million Dollar Man on LaserDisc. I haven't watched it for a good number of years. Its an old copy, I think it was pressed in 1977 or '78 when the format was very new. So, I guess I should take a look and see if it still plays. I, too, liked the pilot in many ways better than the resulting series. In particular, in the pilot, when he is running fast, he is really running fast. None of this drawn-out slow-motion stuff that became very monotonous as the series went on. None of this drawn-out slow-motion stuff that became very monotonous as the series went on. I thought the pilot and the first couple of seasons were good. The "bionic" effects were acceptable and the stories good. Then, after that the stories got too far fetch to believe and then the bionic woman, jamie sommers, came along and just ruined it all. So many shows of the 60s and early 70's seemed to fall into that category. Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea became campy, monster of the week shows after the first couple of seasons. I'm anxiously awaiting the Man from UNCLE to be available. I ordered the set. I'm also waiting for a couple of more series to come out. It takes a Thief with Robert Wagner and Batman (at least it's funny). DinoMike 10-11-2007, 04:19 PM How does one go about purchasing a region free player? Got mine at Wal-Mart for $50. Most, if not ALL, DVD players have region-free ability built in. (Because some countries' trade laws don't allow the sale of region-locked DVD players, I'm told... ) A good number of websites have instructions on how to enable the feature on any given DVD player. (Mine also has a built in PAL-to-NTSC converter... a must for playing DVDs from overseas.) Mine's a RCA model DRC247N. Also, mine just required a certain keypad code to be entered on the remote to enable region-free operation. Some players require a firmware upgrade... you have to download updated files, burn them to a CD, then insert the D into your player's disc try & it will read the new files into its operating system. I'm not too comfortable with that system... I much prefer ones like mine, where the coding's there already, it just needs unlocking. Old_McDonald 10-11-2007, 04:53 PM thanks, I'll go talk to my local store and see if any of the tech guys at Best Buy know anything about this. I agree with you that I'd prefer not to have to upload any software. Why? 1 word: LURCH! Krel 10-11-2007, 11:03 PM Yeah, but which Bigfoot--the André the Giant Bigfoot from The Six Million Dollar Man, or the Ted Cassidy Bigfoot from The Bionic Woman? :p The Bigfoot from "The Venture Brothers" and his, shall we say 'special' relationship with Steve Austin. Before "The Six Million Dollar Man" became a weekly series, it was a series of rotating 90 minute movies with two or three other series. I remember that one of the other series was "Kung Fu". The movies were also more serious, and spy oriented. David. It started with two made-for-tv movies, The Night Stalker in 1972 and The Night Strangler in 1973. Bruce Bishop 10-15-2007, 03:13 PM The Wikipedia entry says there were 3 tv movies before the series, and a website is selling the 5 seasons, the 3 before the series movies as well as the 3 reuinion movies after the series ended. This webpage lists all the episodes and the six movies. http://epguides.com/SixMillionDollarMan/ vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
