Hi. For my class, we are constructing a hovercraft. I wanted to know what would be the best type of wood to use for the double deck system. I'm looking between basswood, plywood, spruce or balsa. If you have any suggestions or know any other woods, please help. Thank you.

Try VERY thin balsa over a styrofoam core. Or just the styrofoam. If you use glue just be careful the glue you use is compatible with the styrofoam and avoid oil paints on it, as these will eat the styrofoam. Conact cement incidently will eat it as well. This will be an exceptional material for a hovercraft. Alot of people use it for decking of fullsize homemade hovercraft that they actually use. Do a google search for homemade hovercraft you'll get lots of good info.
