What size hole are you guys drilling in the endbell for oiling the bearing

I've never drilled a hole in any endbell to oil a bearing (or bushing).

The one that I have that's been drilled has what looks to be close to a 1/4" hole. I didn't drill it, I bought it that way...but I love it.

ta man, I belive he's talking about on the NOVAL Brushless motors rear bearing.

There is no access to oil it w/o drilling some type of access hole...unless you remove the rotor and oil it from the inside.

You're right swtour its for a Novak brushless motor. You can oil only one bearing but have to drill a hole on the other side to oil that bearing.

Is that BRL legal? I thought I read it was somewhere but not sure.

I just take the end off and oil it. Why drill a hole and let more dirt in?

I think BRL stipulates the hole must not be larger than 3/8", maintenance only, not for lightening of unit....

5.16 ) Approved motors may NOT have material removed from the can or end bell for the purpose of increased ventilation, or in an effort to lighten the motor. A single hole may be drilled in the back end cap for the purpose of oiling the rear bearing, the hole may be no larger then 3/8".

What Tom stated but the way Sonny typed it. lol

I drilled an 1/8th inch hole. More than big enough to put a couple drops of oil in there. Less chance of BIG dirt. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/icons/icon10.gif

1/8 hole sounds good, big enough to oil and won't let any dirt in like Andy said. Thanks guys for your comments!

If you pull the black plastic cover off the end of the motor you will see where the bearing sits, you just drill a small hole in that portion that will allow you to get to where you need to oil the bearing, nothing fancy, just a hole. I think an 1/8" hole is fine, mine is probably 3/16" of something a little bigger but it for sure isn't 3/8"...the bearing out fall out of that thing just about....

I drilled a hole just big enough so the needle of the oil bottle fits.Oil and spin to prevent dirt from getting in cut a small piece of electrical or strapping tape and put over hole. :woohoo:
