View Full Version : J.A.M.S. 2007-2008 Carpet Oval Season
ReasonableDoubt 10-07-2007, 08:16 PM It's that time again, We started up the indoor oval racing season with a bang this past Saturday. Not the biggest Turnout but a lot of familiar faces stopped by to chat. We had racers for all of our classes (sportsman, late model, 4300 brushless, Busch, and legends).
The carpet was a little slick at the beginning of the night but was great by the mains rolled around. Brushless ran 76 laps in the second qualifier, which surprised many.
It was also the night of our open house in which we discussed some of the new rules, which can be viewed at jamsrc.com but some of the changes that differ from last year are as follows:
4300 brushless- 4200 battery limit, sintered rotors ARE allowed, also we will not be mixing in the 5800's in with the 4300's. If newcomers desire to race 4300 the MUST bring their own 4300 motor. but please feel free to bring some friends and race the 5800's
Late Model- Battery limit is 4200
Busch - must run the C.O.T. body
We will also be extending the infield with delrin and foam to protect our cars better. This will allow the "box" to flex if we turn in too soon and hit it. Also, a small driver's stand will be built to prevent racer's from marshalling their own cars and to prevent racer's from picking up their cars and doing a "quick fix" and placing it back down.
Overall we had a great time and are looking forward to implementing these changes and drawing in more people. A lot of new people racing the "low maintenance" brushless car's and also we WILL be racing the new Losi Slider's. Must be completely box stock, and only allowed to change the oil and preload with the included spacers. Stock Radio, motor, batteries, etc. This is one of the bigger excitements about this coming year as well.
Looking forward to seeing everyone come out of the woodwork and enjoy oval racing this weekend!!!
monsterdriver3 10-08-2007, 04:16 PM This is presummed to be Tim Barth
If so You are not wanted here ever again
Also If anybody sees him post again under any name They need to Report post RIGHT AWAY SO THAT HANK OR MYSELF CAN DEAL WITH THIS

hydroracer 10-09-2007, 08:03 AM We had a small group of cars Saturday night. Partly due to the heat and there was a stock car festival in Plymouth that week end. We do want to congratulate Steve Stacy for winning the Late Model Championship for Plymouth Speedway-GOOD JOB!!!
We had about 20 cars. It was decided that rules for the brushless would stay the same as last year, except for allowing the sintered rotor. The 4300 motor just needs to be box stock, as you buy it this year.
Busch changed to the COT body and Late Model's uped the battery to 4200.
Sportsman have not changed rules, but all sportsman drivers will be charged $5 to race. When we start getting larger crowds, Sportsman will only race 1 heat and a main. Most Sportsman drivers are younger kids, and parents will be glad to get them out a little earlier. Also this will help get all drivers home earlier as we typically had 4 or 5 Sportsman mains.
Rental cars will be rented by the number of races, $5/race. So the racer can choose if they just want to race one race or 2 or on a slow night they could choose to race all 3 races.
Our portable track that we took to Kewanna worked out well. As a matter of fact we are going to look into taking it to some smaller events in the future. Instead of having races, we will charge to drive the rentals and hopefully this will help us pull in some more interested drivers or fans. If you have a group or event that would be interested in us placing the track at their event-talk to us and we will see what we can work out. I will put some pictures on the website this week.
Pot O Gold will be held Saturday, Nov 10 at the Mishawaka FOP. We will be there. Watch for more information about this in the future.
It was decided that we would run 5 points nights, you can throw out the worse night or miss one night. So we will take your best 4 nights and add those together. Points nights will be Oct 19, Nov 10, Nov 24, Dec 14 and Dec 29.
Many people have shown an interest in the Losi Slider (1/18th car). These are available all over for $180. They come complete and ready to race. This is a great way for someone to get into RC Racing. They are not available for us to order until the end of Oct, but we seriously want to start this as a class at our track. Completely box stock. Mini's seem to be creating quite a stir and we want to include them in our program. So watch for more information on those. Let me know if you are interested in ordering one.
October 26 will be a SPOOKTACULAR EVENT-with trophies and other surprises. Plan to be there!!
Thanksgiving weekend-Here is what we are thinking. Friday running Sportsman, Legends and Minis. Saturday running Busch, Late Model, Nascar, and Mini's again. Let us know what you think, and we will work out the details.
We will be closed on Dec 22 for a long Christmas weekend. Dec 29 will be the final points race of the year. If you are interested in doing something either on New Year's Eve or New Year's day-let us know and we will see what we can work out.
Thanks for your support and we hope to see everyone soon!!

Z-Main Loser 10-09-2007, 04:07 PM Can you guys make up your minds. The last race last year it was decieded that sintered rotors in the 4300 motors were allowed. Alec's post even says that. Now according to Jesse's post they are not. I'm not going though the hassle of switching back and forth just to race there. If sintered rotors are allow then I will race there, if not, have a fun season. This track is fun to race on but at some point you all need to get updated with the rest of the oval community. Unless this a members only type of place.
hydroracer 10-09-2007, 04:25 PM Derek
I emailed them this morning after I re-read the email from them (I just copied and pasted it on here). I was wondering the same thing. The new "box stock" motor has the sintered arm...so we'll just have to see. Once I get a definite from the owners, I'll be sure to post it here.
ReasonableDoubt 10-09-2007, 10:11 PM Well, i'm really thinking it's just a typo. Jesse your right about the new motors being "box stock" they all contain Sintered rotors. But they also need to more clear just by adding "sintered rotors allowed" i know we ran them this past weekend at the open house....all 3 of us did....and the last race of last year we did as well.......sooooooooooooo
I'm like 99.9% sure that they are allowing the sintered rotors......unless they decided not to after the fact that we decided to.
*shrug* guess we'll see from Jesse's email........
hydroracer 10-10-2007, 08:04 AM alright...I heard from them. They do mean "box stock", but that does include the sintered rotor as this is "Box stock" for today's motors. So yes, the sintered rotors are allowed in the motors this year. Sorry for the confusion.
Hope to see everyone at the track soon.
ReasonableDoubt 10-10-2007, 06:01 PM If anyone is interested in running the new Losi Slider class........Stormerhobbies.com has 18 in stock ready to buy............179.99.......Me and my dad got ours today........looking forward to some 1/18 scale competition.....so BRING IT ON.............AND BUY UP THOSE SLIDERS...........comes with everything thing you need......radio, battery, charger, etc etc........just pop it out of the box and your ready to RACE (not run).......as the class rules state that they must be COMPLETELY BOX STOCK....pinions and all.........
Grab em up
ReasonableDoubt 10-14-2007, 12:02 PM soo.....we had another small crowd here at JAMS last night........we ran our ceremonial inauguration of the new Losi Slider class......Tim Wasso showed up with his Mini-T and ran with us.....he had a slight advantage.....foam tires and spring changes so he kicked butt out there......but for anyone or is looking for a second class or looking to get in to rc these things are GREAT........turned 42 laps last night...and still trying to get more out of it.....no traction compound is needed....the rubber tires grip almost too well.......only issue with them is to get them from not rolling up of the RF.......and absolute blast though. We had a couple of heats of sportsman....1 heat of Late model 1 heat of busch.. 1 heat of B/l, one heat of legends..and one heat of the new sliders...
For all of you Busch Drivers the new COT body is mandatory......so make sure you get yours painted up...Late model battery limit is 4200......and B/L box stock motor's SINTERED ROTOR ARE ALLOWED.......just to recap any discrepancies.........Looking forward to next saturday.......FIRST POINTS RACE OF THE 2007 WINTER SEASON......
BRING OUT YOUR SLIDERS AND LET'S RACE.......
Alec and Rich Sanderson...
P.S. stormerhobbies.com has slider's in stock ready to deliver.......
ReasonableDoubt 10-16-2007, 10:33 PM Pete's will have the new losi slider's in his hobby shop on Thursday the 18th...I do believe......so for anyone whose interested stop by.....come with everything you need to be competitive...They're selling like hot cakes so stop by soon....
jloon 10-17-2007, 07:11 PM roll call for 4300 who is coming this sat
ReasonableDoubt 10-18-2007, 05:21 PM Me and Dad.....Woo-hoo......new setup........works great at pete's........let's hope it's the same for JAMS
Alec
hydroracer 10-18-2007, 09:42 PM not quite done with the new car yet...hopefully I'll be done for next weekend.
jloon 10-18-2007, 10:40 PM i got lucky last week :) need to do some tweeking for this week
ToddFalkowski 10-19-2007, 01:46 PM ..............................
ReasonableDoubt 10-22-2007, 08:49 PM We had a great night of racing on saturday. JAMS had a full stock of the new Losi Slider's and it seemed like they were multiplying in the pits. In the first qualifier there was only 4 of us by the end of the night there was 8 i think. It was a ripping time. Track Record is 46 laps for the little guys, held by Rich Sanderson. Saw some new faces, which is always a plus. Overall, the crowd was a little short, but it was a good night of racing for the first points race of the season. Looking forward to next Saturday, which is the first trophy race of the season.
hydroracer 10-23-2007, 08:50 AM Glad to hear that all is going well.....hopefully I'll be able to get the cars finished and make it out this weekend. What classes, other than the sliders, has been popular so far this year?
Hope to race soon!
ReasonableDoubt 10-23-2007, 03:34 PM Surprisingly enough, Brushless has had the most drivers yet. Busch has had quite a few, ,and sadly, the late model regulars haven't been showing up that much. We've had a couple late models, several busch, and alot of brushless. Well alot for the time of year.
We had 6 B/L drivers this past saturday. Tough competition too........
L4OvalRacer 10-23-2007, 10:02 PM GOod job last week loony you hada fast car. What do you think of the new guy last week. The guy that had the orange hyperdrive. Very diffrent????
Taylor
L4OvalRacer 10-23-2007, 10:06 PM Hey todd
You coming down to JAMS anytime this year i bet Alec and Rich would be some good compition.
PS when are the carltons coming i heard they have been woryed about the track and how slipery it is. Waiting on use to put down the grove. JAMS needs a sumer plan like petes.
Taylor
ReasonableDoubt 10-23-2007, 10:06 PM David Raber (sp???) was his name........He had a great main....very consistent driver for his first time oval racing in a while......very consistent on an inconsistent track i might add.......
Looking forward to racing with David again........
hydroracer 10-23-2007, 10:30 PM Todd...I haven't gotten any more information about the Spooktacular event, but I haven't been to the track yet this year.
Taylor...i haven't talked to the rest of the Carlton's about traction, but this Carlton is not too worried about the traction. That's why the cars are adjustable. Not sure where you got your info, but we'll post if we are worried about traction, thanks.
Alec..thanks for the info. The brushless car(s) should be out this weekend, which will be a learning experience with the new cars for some of us. I'm trying to get a Late Model put together too. Maybe I'll even bust out the old legends too, depending on if there are any more out and ready to race.
Hope to see everyone this weekend.
ToddFalkowski 10-24-2007, 07:32 AM Hey todd

Taylor, we'll see. Maybe sometime soon (Thanks Jesse for the note on the Spooktacular event- as it's a "trophy race" a few of us MRCR boys wouldn't mind supporting it if possible- as we believe in cross-promoting, guess I wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna be driving backwards or you have to dress up like Yoda to race, or something crazy like that)
Taylor, keep in mind that there's a lot of guys that do other things in the summer- like boat racing, for example. I think history serves that the Carlton's, for example, start a few weeks late. Winter season always starts slow, where guys start trickling in- especially when it's 70 and sunny. Rest assured, everyone will come out of the woodwork, and you'll have plenty of cars to compete with.
hydroracer 10-24-2007, 08:22 AM Todd....sorry I don't have more info on the race this weekend. Hopefully no costumes are required. If so, I'll just go as an ugly, wanna-be-racer, I've always got that costume! Good point about starting late also....summer racing has to get stored for the winter, plus with nice weather, there are things around the house to be done.
Anyways.....any legends been showing up yet? Who's in for 4300 this weekend?
jloon 10-24-2007, 02:49 PM thanks taylor :) i still got some bugs to work out in both cars, but i should be a little better this sat  hydro, give me a week or two and i will have my legand ready(still need to paint a lid for it)
ReasonableDoubt 10-24-2007, 03:25 PM 2 more for b/l this weekend..Me and dad........as usual..........got some new parts today...(fingers crossed that i can go faster now....)
See ya'll this weekend........GET THOSE CARS PUT TOGETHER JESSE........THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT TOGETHER YESTERDAY......
see ya
L4OvalRacer 10-24-2007, 04:08 PM I think taylor kennedy is coming back to run his legands a little suprised sence the issue he had with bobby last week.
Hey hydro i hope you dont mind me and Jeremy running late model with you guys. I bet it will be compition. See ya this week.
He loony how did you epoxy your chassie give me some tips on how you did that????
Taylor
hydroracer 10-24-2007, 04:12 PM I'm getting closer on the cars...few more things to finish up on the B/L car and it should be put together, then all I need to do is the body. Late Model needs a bit more work, but I'll do my best to get it done also. Maybe a couple more B/L cars will be finished up and ready to race this weekend, just have to see if they get them finished. Legends, well it hasn't been touched since I put it in the box last year, so it is what it is.
Now the only question is....can I keep up???
turn4 10-25-2007, 09:39 AM TAYLOR-
I think instead of our so called worries of the track being slippery-we are more worried about being in the way when you guys decide to act like idiots and kick your cars across the floor... I am just wondering what the point of that is... I can think of better ways to destroy your stuff...
hydroracer 10-25-2007, 10:18 AM Turn4.....you guys all ready to go for this weekend?
turn4 10-25-2007, 10:23 AM Yep-I think we are
L4OvalRacer 10-25-2007, 05:01 PM hold on turn four if you have a problem with us racing you better take it up on the the track i dident mean to be offensive about the slippery thing. You got a problem you need to tell me face to face. I do try to start anything but where just trying to have fun if you are going to all serious about this then we can race somewhere else.
I dont try to make enemys but i think you all need to be a little more kind to your fellow racers. I just heard that from some other racers and wanted to know if thats true.
Taylor
L4OvalRacer 10-25-2007, 05:03 PM We need to have a talk this week at the track if you have a problem with us racing.
I try to be my best. If that not good enough for anybody i can go somewhere else where it is. I love JAMS if i dident belive me if i dident i wouldent be there.
Taylor
ReasonableDoubt 10-25-2007, 05:07 PM -TAYLOR
i don't think there was anything wrong with what turn4 said.........why would someone kick something across the floor.......if everyone is there to have fun.......is it fun to destroy your stuff that you/your parents bought for you......i think turn4 is just getting at a point of respect.......respect your stuff......respect your fellow drivers.....(move out of the way when your 10 laps off the pace..i do.....) pull your car off of the track when it's broken, or your diff has loosened itself.....don't marshall your own car....say sorry when you hit someone, instead of laughing about it......when you see cars out on the track that are way slower than you, wait 5 minutes until they're done.......racing is a matter of respect. Life is a matter of respect.....you won't get far without it......
It's just simple racing etiquette that will keep everyone happy......and if you or anyone else doesn't want to follow......please go somewhere else.......because a lack of respect is a waste of everyone else's time/money...............
L4OvalRacer 10-25-2007, 05:09 PM when was it i kicked something acrossed the floor? dont remember
taylor
L4OvalRacer 10-25-2007, 05:18 PM Not trying to start anything just dident understand the question. I still cant recall kicking my car acrossed the floor? Will try my best to stay out of you guys way.

Hey Derek... Yes, that is the plan. Except you missed the word "race" after trophy (see above). ;)
Taylor... Shhhh.... Talk to whoever Turn 4 is at the track- you'll get much more solved in that manner, or you'll at least feel better if you get to shout.
Question: Brushless- still no receiver packs, you CAN run a sintered rotor- is that correct? Anything else change?
ReasonableDoubt 10-25-2007, 09:59 PM correct...sintered is allowed.......no reciever packs.......

Now on to the important things.....racing at JAMS! Sounds like an awesome field of B/L cars showing up this weekend! Should be some fast cars out there. Can't wait to see everyone and get back to racing again.
L4OvalRacer 10-26-2007, 10:11 AM How about everybody stop worrieing about what i said and more on racing this weekend. Dont want this to go to fare over a stuip message. Racing is for the fun not to make a big scene at the race track. If you want to talk come see me you know where i sit.
