Alan Tudyk (Wash) drops a hint that Universal is very impressed with DVD sales of both Firefly and Serenity. So much so that a sequel MAY be a possibility. I knew there was a reason I bought the new 2-disk Serenity. Read more.

Given their track record, it's very likely Universal would do a sequel if they smell money. If they do, I hope they'll maintain the level of quality present in Firefly and Serenity. Unfortunately, at this point it still sounds more like wishful thinking than an actuality.

I agree. I don't put much stock in it until I hear something concrete from Universal. But hope is still a good thing. Of course, the only way this will work is if Joss is involved.

Hey, they were selling out of the first DVD, put out a second edition & have made official note of how well it's still selling. That's all good in my 'verse! Here's to positive thinking!

I read the same news else where, and the guess that I read is that it might be direct to DVD. I don't care how, I just want to know when!

Even if it is direct to DVD I am sure the browncoats will work something out with local theaters to show it on the big screen.

Universal has been pretty good with allowing Serenity to be shown to raise money for Equity now.

I would go to the theater to see Firefly!

I'd love to see another film -- and I'd go see it in a theater if given the opportunity.

I think one of the problems that Serenity had was that people don't want to think anymore. My father (god love him....) asked me why would the "bad guys" be using spears and such if they could travel in space. They should have jsut pulled out their ray guns. No matter how much I tried to explain the concept of a group of people so far gone, they choose the most brutal ways to kill and not the most efficient. Also, the lack of ray guns in general for the good guys did not help, but, the opening sequence with the Reaver's really threw him for a loop.

I saw the film Serenity first, and then I watched Firefly. It was interesting how the series deviated from what I expected. I figured the Reavers would play a larger role in the series than they did, and I didn't realize Shepherd Book was a regular on the show. I also expected we'd see "Mr. Universe" on the show, and we never did.

Interesting way to approach it - as I assume many did. I'm not sure what preconceptions I would have about the series based solely on seeing the film.

The problem I see with another film is that Wash and Book are gone. But I note from the interview that Alan looks forward to reprising the Wash role? You could set the film back in time during the series or between the series and the first film I suppose. But we know from dialog in the film that it takes place less than a year from when the series began. I guess a lot could happen in that year.

Yes, I was a bit surprised that Book was killed off (and don't even talk about Wash. My wife at the end was still waiting for something to happen to have him come back. Thought there may have been somethign at the end of the credits and everything. She said "but... what about Wash? It doesn't make any sense WHAT'S GOING ON!!!" Very dissapointed!). I think in the back of our minds we know everything is a bit rushed and trying to fit a lot in. Probably another reason fans were so hacked off the series was dropped.

SSBThe Reavers may have played a larger part if the series had continued; I guess we'll never know.

If they do another film, I could see them going back to "fill in the blanks" between the end of the series and the events in Serenity, maybe tell Shepard Book's backstory and why he left the crew; he was certainly the most enigmatic character.

Well, they can't tell Shepherd's back story because at the time of the film, it's still a mystery to Mal. Of course, they could do it with the "Lost" style of flashbacks.

The three part comic story, told the story of Book, leaving the ship.

So, in a highly condensed form, why did he leave?

Mal was proving to be a bad influence on Book's attempt to turn away from his past.

Someone commented that the series failed because viewers don't want to think.

I think its because the network failed miserably in promoting it.

On a sequel, I'd love that but for the life of me, its going to be missing a big piece of its appeal without Wash and Book.

Who said they would be missing? You think a little thing like their deaths will deter Joss from including them in some way?

I've read a couple of interviews where Joss Whedon stated the "suits" at FOX never understood the series because it didn't fit in with their "jiggles and giggles" programming, which is why it was constantly being pre-empted, episodes were aired out-of-order, and moved to different time slots. Even loyal viewers could never find the show, then FOX canceled it citing low ratings.

Then FOX fired the executives responsible and apologized. I wish I could find that press release again...

I had heard the same thing, too.
