I agree...but the series and movie has been raking in money hand-over-fist on DVD for several years now. Last I heard, Firefly was still on Amazon's top sellers list.
The article isn't exactly accurate, as Serenity wasn't a major financial flop theatrically. It was at about the break-even point in domestic box-office revenue, and worldwide turned a decent, if not huge, profit. Whedon said from the start that Universal was going to be satisfied with a break-even theatrical run, because they knew it would be a strong DVD property. From the numbers I've heard, it's turned quite the tidy profit when factoring in DVD sales.
