Pete McKay 10-04-2007, 11:27 AM Here's a first shot of my modified Lola F1 (A1GP) in it's new livery, DeWalt Tools.

Just in time for the last race of a local series on October 12th, early track time shows it nearly as fast as the SCX cars with the magnet dropped to .020" above the track rails.
BRS Hobbies 10-04-2007, 11:48 AM Pete,
The car looks great! Be sure to post back how you do in the race.
Best regards,
Brian
cagee 10-04-2007, 11:58 AM Very nice.
Great job Pete! As Brian said, definitely post up your race results with this one! Always interesting to see how a car performed compared to what you expected from the way you set it up.
Nice work!

Pete McKay 10-05-2007, 11:44 AM Last night I qualified a 58.12@266.31mph on the 15 lap qualifyer, mid pack of the 12 car field. I was the fastest solid axle car and faster than two turning cars. All the solid axle cars get the .020" magnet clearance. The race is tonight, I should have results posted by Monday. BTW, the decals were from Patto's and were an HO scale set of the same one's I got for the TVR project.
The A1GP car was modified by altering the rear wing aerodynamics, SPEC's dictated a seperate rear wing like on the IRL cars. I also removed all of the little camera bumps and the strake on the back part of the air scoop. It's just enough of a change to make it look like something else.
Ragnar 10-06-2007, 12:20 AM Good job on the modifications you did on the car, turning an A1GP into an F1 car. The livery looks real good. Let us know how it does in the race.
Cheers!
Tom
Pete McKay 10-08-2007, 12:39 PM We got about half way through the event and had scoring problems so the race was postponed until this Saturday. The solid axle cars were doing well against the turning cars in the first round and I finished in the top 4. I did have a 1/2 oz advantage, the limit for all cars was 7 oz total break-away weight, that means the weight of the car plus downforce needed to get the car pulled off the track. My A1GP car weighs 6.4 ounces but 3.8 of it is magnetic downforce. The fastest car was a Scalextric IRL car in 7-11 paint.

I have one of those Scalextric IRL cars except in the Mobil 1 paint scheme. They are quick for as small as they are, but when stacked up against some of the old Carerra's and other Indy/F1 cars, they seem to be out geared/motored.
We are having an A1GP Enduro race this Friday night. Not sure if I'm going to be able to make this race or not, but the format is 3 minute rounds, 8 rounds each and doing a Euro-style rotation between all 4 lanes. Always an interesting race! Deslots result in track and clock being stopped and cars being placed back on where they came out.
Good times!

Pete McKay 10-09-2007, 11:36 AM During practice just about every turning car suffered some sort of front suspension failure. While they may be faster (and not necessarily because of the steering front wheels) they are more prone to breaking in a shunt. Future events will be designated either articulated or solid front ends.
Martin Simone 10-09-2007, 09:56 PM A turning car is one that has the front wheels that turn with the slot guide in the corners, like the SCX F1 cars. Some other brands also have turning cars, but the A1GP cars have a solid, non-turning front end.
Pete McKay 10-09-2007, 10:40 PM The SCX F1 front suspensions are very spindley, I had one hard shunt that did nothing, then what I felt was minor contact with another car and popped the front hub off the car. It just snaps back on but that's not the point: It's time lost on the track when guys are lapping at 4-5 seconds a lap and it takes about 20 seconds to fix your car. If I'm running a few tenths slower than a turning car and he crashes and I get a lap or two on him, then it's to my advantage to run a solid front axle car. I won't be like ol' Martin here and hang out a rear corner of a car and brake check the following guy into an accident, but if he's in my lane I have no problem snow-plowing him out of the way and picking up track position.

LOL!! We call that "spatulla time", especially in F1/Indy. Those front wings make for great car flippers. :woohoo:

Martin Simone 10-10-2007, 06:06 PM I didn't brake check you, I lost current momentarily. :) When you crashed into me my car picked up the juice again, sorry if you thought I did something....uncooth!
We're running Artin stockers down here now, cheap, fast out of the box and you can slam the crud out of them and nothing breaks off. We have a 4 lane (soon to be 6 lane) flat oval that is 66' per lap in lane 2. We've been building up the grandstands and other buildings to represent the old Mesa Marin Speedway, all the way down to the Vuchy III memorial. But for the bucks ($25 to be exact) the Artin stockers are pretty good.

Got a link to these Artin's where one can see them online and/or purchase them? Just curious.
Thanks!

Pete McKay 10-11-2007, 12:45 PM Brian, I plan to hit you up for 4 of them after the 1st of the month. I'll need a white one, two yellow and a red. I'm about to order the decals for all of the Roush-Fenway cars and will do them up. Also, the review on your page about the cars is excellent, lots of great infor there. I spent an hour on the phone last night and got a lot of information on them, this weekend I'll be heading down to Bakersfield to watch a Thunder Stocker event. This sounds like the series I've been searching so hard to do, imagine 43 painted Artin stockers lined up at an event.

Martin Simone 10-11-2007, 08:56 PM I'll have a No Fear Racing/Boris Said car done for you by then. We're doing the road course this week so you should fit right in with that car. Right now we have 26 painted cars, most are Chevy's but we even have a few Pontiacs, which you can still pull off with the Artin's body. Bring your Lola too because we may do an open wheel event as well.
Pete McKay 10-12-2007, 12:09 AM I just ordered the decals, they'll be here in about 2 weeks. Then I'll oder the cars, a week or so to paint and by mid November I'll be ready to race.

Thanks Brian! With Scalextric's recent announcement that they have halted all production of the 2007 NASCARs its going to get hard to find any non-COT cars. Carerra just released their anouncement of having 4 COT's coming - I think we will see those before Christmas time, if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks again!
